Get into the festive spirit at Wisley with the Jigantics light installation around the gardens. Giant illuminated flowers bloom throughout the gardens in this stunning display. There are also natural Christmas decorations around the gardens, and a floral display in the glasshouse

Father Christmas in the Grotto – Painshill – Sat 3 Dec to Sat 24 Dec


Follow the festive route through the gorgeous gardens at Painshill and meet Santa in the Grotto. There’s a Christmas Wish Tent where children will be given an activity pack, and where you can stop for refreshments. Elves will then guide you to the magical crystal grotto where the jolly man in the red suit will be waiting. Tickets are £8 adults, £7 concessions , £12 children.

National Trust Christmas Wreath Workshops – various venues – 2 Dec


Get creative this Christmas and make your own festive wreath from materials sourced on National Trust estates. The workshop at Landbarn Farm near Dorking, is on Fri 2 Dec, but is already booked out. The Witley Centre, near Godalming, on Sun 4 Dec (10am-3pm), lunch is also included and the cost is £36. At Winkworth Arboretum near Godalming, on Sun 4 Dec, from 11am-1pm, you’ll collect materials from around the arboretum. Cost is £30. Runnymede near Egham is hosting two workshps on Thurs 7 Dec from 10.30am-12.30 and 1.30-3.30pm using greenery from the Ankerwycke estate. Cost is £30.


Father Xmas Needs a Wee – Dorking Halls – Sun 6 Dec


It was a sell out last year, but Father Chrismas is back on his rounds again this year… and he needs a wee! It’s hardly surprising considering all those tipples that are left for him at every house he visits on his Christmas round. Expect music and mayhem in the adaptation of Nicholas Allan’s children’s book. The show starts at 2.30pm. Tickets are £13.50 adults, £11.50 children.

Christmas Fair – Farnham Maltings – Thurs 1 Dec


Last day to catch The Farnham Maltings Christmas Fair. You’ll find more than 150 stalls featuring handmade gifts, crafts, vintage bits and bobs, and food and drink. It’s open from 10am-8pm. Entry is £1, under 15s are free.

Lily and the Little Snowbear – Cranleigh Art Centre – Sat 3 Dec


Blunderbus Theatre group bring this funny and heartwarming tale of friendship about a little girl called Lily, who lives with her grandpa in the countryside. With puppets, music and a magical snowy setting, the story is aimed at children aged 3+. There are shows at 11am and 2pm. tickets are £8.80 or £30 for a family of four.

Book Fair – Farnham Maltings – Sun 4 Dec

Vintage Wallpaper Books Latest HD Collections -

More than 40 individual exhibitors will be at this second-hand book sale. It covers most subject areas from travel to transport to history and first edition collectibles and more. The sale is on from 10am-3pm. Admission is £1.

Royal Ballet Live: The Nutcracker – Leatherhead Theatre – Sat 10 Dec and Thurs 17 Dec


Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the Royal Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker – but schlepping up to London can be a drag. It’ll be screened live to The Leatherhead Theatre on Sat 10 Dec, with an encore screening on Thurs 17 Dec. It’s the classic tale danced to Tchaikovsky’s glittering score, on a gorgeous festive stage. Tickets to the live screening are £18 adults, £12 children. And for the encore screening it’s £16.50 adults, £10.50 children. Both shows start at 7.15pm.

Ross Noble: Brain Dump – G Live, Guildford – Wed 7 Dec


If you’re looking for an alternative to all the Christmas shows on at the moment, Ross might just be your man. He’s known for his quick freewheeling comedy style and imaginative flights of fancy. Leave the kids at home though, it’s not recommended for those under 15. Tickets are £28.50. Show starts at 8pm.
