National Theatre Live: No Man’s Land – various venues – Thurs 15 Dec


Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart return to the West End stage in this revival of Harold Pinter’s comic classic, and it will be broadcast live from the Wyndham’s Theatre. The story follows two ageing writers, Hirst and Spooner, who meet in a Hampstead pub and then continue their drinking back at Hirst’s nearby home. As they get more and more drunk, and their stories more unbelievable, the converstation toons into a reealing power game. Click here to find a venue near you.

Christmas Animal Visit – Hatchalnds Park – Sat 17 and Sun 18 Dec


The animals from Miller’s Ark Farm will be in the courtyard at Hatchlands Park for the Christmas annual visit. Hatchland’s resident donkeys, Morris and Callum, will also be there to say hello to. The animals will be there from 11am-3pm.

Royal Ballet Live: The Nutcracker – Leatherhead Theatre – Sat 10 Dec and Thurs 17 Dec


Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the Royal Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker – but schlepping up to London can be a drag. There’s an encore screening at Leatherhead Theatre on Thurs 17 Dec. It’s the classic tale danced to Tchaikovsky’s glittering score, on a gorgeous festive stage. Tickets are £16.50 adults, £10.50 children. The show starts at 7.15pm.

Frozen – Rose Theatre, Kingston – Mon 19 Dec

No sign of the Frozen phenomenon abating anytime toon. So get along to the Rose Theatre in Kingston and sing along at this film screening of the Disney, er, classic. A bouncing snowflake hovers over on-screen lyrics so that everyone in the audience can follow the music and sing to their hearts content. And you can even come dressed as your favourite characters. Grit your teeth parents, you know your cherubs are going to love this.

A Medieval Christmas at Guildford Castle – Sun 18 Dec


Find Guildford Castle turns into a winter wonderland in this Medieval Christmas as experienced by  King Edward III in 1347. The event will introduce you to the traditions of the festive season from King Ed’s era, and combines craft and food stalls with festive fun for all the family. It’s on from 11.30am-3.30pm and entry to the grounds are free. Entry to the castle is £3.20 adult, £1.60 child.

Santa and the Pirates (That Don’t Want Christmas) – The Leatherhead Theatre – Wed 21 Dec


This show features not only Santa, but also pirates, and features songs and a chance to meet Santa after the show. It’s a 40 minute show and it promises to be a fun family event. The show starts at 2pm. Tickets for the show only are £7, and for the show plus the meet Santa it’s £10, which includes a gift,

The Snow Queen – Mill Studio, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford – Sat 17 to Sat 24 Dec


The Apollo Theatre Company brings this adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s story to the stage just in time for Christmas. When Kai is sntached from his home by the beautiful, cruel Snow Queen, his best friend Gerda sets off to rescue him. Along the way she meets a series of strangers who help her in her quest. It’s most suitable for kids aged 4+. Most days there are shows at 11am, 2pm and 4pm. Tickets are £9.

The Wizard of Oz – Cranleigh Arts Centre – 19 & 20 Dec


This fast paced and fun musical has recently returned from a sell-out world tour and looks like it’ll be lots of fun. It features all of your favourite characters. Watch out for the Wicked Witch of the West as you rediscover the real story of Oz. Shows are at 1.30pm and 6pm on Dec 19 and 6pm on Dec 20. Tickets are £14.50 adults, £12 children, £48 family of four.

Tenors Unlimited – St Andrew’s Church, Cobham – Sat 17 Dec


Tenors Unlimited are bringing their bad-boy opera to Cobham as part of their ‘Christmas With…’ season. The Rat Pack of Opera – Paul Martin, Jem Sharples, Scott Ciscon –  have performed alongside such notables as Sting, Lionel Richie, Beyoncé, Hayley Westenra, Simply Red and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to name a few. They’ll be singing some of their most popular repertoire, as well as some festive favourites. Tickets are £13 adults, £7 under 16s. Concert starts at 7pm.

Santa in Love – Mill Studio, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford – Thur 15 Dec


One for the little ones – it’s recommended for aged 2 and up. Santa and his friends will bring games, giggles and your favourite Christmas songs to Guildford. And Santa will then hang around after the show to meet the kids and hand out pressies. There are shows at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 4.15pm, and each runs for about an hour. Tickets are £9.50.
