Richard Alston returns with his latest work, inspired by the sonatas of Scarlatti, a composer hugely influenced by Spanish music. An Italian in Madrid continues Alston’s fascination with the fusion of different cultures and styles. BBC Young Dancer grand finalist Vidya Patel has joined the company for this exciting new work. Winter Beer Festival – Dorking Halls – Fri 18 & Sat 19 Nov


The amber liquid will flow freely at this popular winter festival. Try beers and ciders from across the UK, while relaxing or rocking on to live music from local bands. There will be 40 craft ales to chose from, including some special brews. And to make sure it’s just liquid in your tummy, there’s also hot food available. And if you’re not a huge fan of beer, the bar will also serve wine, spirits and soft drinks. It’s for over 18s only. Tickets prices vary with a four hour session starting at £6 going up to £25 for weekend pass.

Loseley House Christmas Fair – Loseley House, nr Guildford – Thurs 17 to Sun 20 Nov


If you’re already starting to feel the Christmas spirit, head to the Loseley House Christmas Fair this weekend. It’s hosted by the Rural Craft Association and you’ll find craft and food in abundance. It’s on from 9am -5pm Thurs to Sat and 9am-4pm on Sun. Tickets: £5 adults, £4.50 seniors, students £4, children free.

This is the story of when a seemingly invincible Margaret Thatcher ruthlessly sacked Geoffrey Howe, her Foreign Secretary in 1989. Foolishly, she thought she had nothing to fear from her one-time friend and political ally, who’s speaking skills had famously been compared to a dead sheep. But Howe destroyed the PM’s career with one of the deadliest political speeches ever made. Steve Nallon plays Margaret Thatcher in this funny and entertainting story. Tickets: £21-£32.50.

Does this man ever stop touring? For all you fans of comedy, Jimmy Carr has gathered up is best material and added in some new stuff and taken it on tour. And he’s stopping off in Woking on Sunday. Arts and Crafts Fair – The Lightbox, Woking – Sat 19 & Sun 20 Nov


Get a headstart on your Christmas shoping at The Lightbox’s annual fair. Enjoy mulled wine and mince pies, and listen to festive music as you wander around the stalls. There will be jewellery, art and illustration, textiles and homewards, glasswork, pottery and more. It’s on from 10.30am-5pm each day and entry is free.

Christmas at Kew – Kew Gardens – 23 Nov to 2 Jan


The beautiful gardens at Kew get a festive makeover as trees, buildings and pathways are light up like, er, Christmas. Follow the mile-long path between a carpet of light swaying like blossom, past trees dripping in giant crystals, and see the tunnel of light, this year animated by more than 60,000 lights making patterns and pictures in time to festive music. There are also rides, food and drink, including mulled wine, spiced cider and roasting chestnuts. Christmas doesn’t get much more Christmassy than this.

The Thoroughbred Christmas Ball – Royal Automobile Club, Epsom – Sat 10 Dec


The Racehorse Sanctuary at Godalming is celebrating the tenth anniversary of The Thoroughbred Ball, raising money to help with rehabilitation, retraining and sanctuary programmes for horses at the end of their careers in racing. More than 4,000 racehorses leave the racing industry each year. British vocal harmony group The Overtones will be playing at the ball. Omid Djalili: Schmuck For a Night – Farnham Maltings – Mon 28 Nov


Another week, another comedian. This time it’s award-winning comedian and actor Omid Djalili, who’s known for his intelligent and provocative shows. His stand-up is energetic and captivating, and always entertaining – and his shows frequently sell out so you’ll need to book soon if you want to see him. Show starts at 8pm. Tickets: £24.
