Part of the Farnnham Maltings’ summer Grills and Guitars series of live music, is local folk and blues singer and songwriter Emilie Cheshire. She’s been influenced by the likes of the Eagles, Queen, Mamma Cass and Fleetwood Mac, so expect a mellow and tuneful set with a mix of folk and blues classics and Nineties nostalgia.

Latitude Festival Takeover, South Bank, London, free events until 29 Aug


Suffolk’s Latitude festival is coming a little closer this August, taking over London’s South Bank with a mix of music, theatre, dance and literature. Highlights include comic country and western act Tina C; the award-winning Action To The Word’s new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream; a collaboration between a group of artists and children’s novelist and poet Michael Rosen, musical bingo  and a swing dance class. The Latitude takeover is part of a wider free outdoor festival every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 29 Aug at the River Stage outside the National Theatre with theatre, guest DJs, live music in the afternoon and late evening, family activities and more.


Superheroes Family Day, Sandow Park Racecourse, Sat 20 Aug


Sandown Park will be transformed into a playground for your little Superheroes with loads of free adventurous activities for all the family in between the racing action, including a Batmobile, superhero bouncy stilt walkers, superhero balloon modellers, facepainters, three different bouncy inflatables, superhero dancers and a bungee trampoline. It opens 11.45am, the first race  is at 1.45pm, and the last race is at 5.10pm.

Hosted by the iconic Ministry of Sound, experience a unique club night like no other alongside some of the Thorpe Parks most famous rides which stay open exclusively for thrill-seeking clubbers. Expect nonstop floor fillers and big room dance anthems, as Ministry of Sound DJs playing the latest tracks until 3am. Doors open 8pm-3am with rides from 8pm-11pm.

You will definitely have to book in advance if you fancy checking out this huge new show from David Hockney. After his last landscape exhibition, which was massive, he’s turned to portraits — and the subjects are all family, friends, acquaintances from his life in LA.  Sounds absolutely stunning.

Joan Collins: Unscripted, at G Live, Guildford, Thurs 22 Sept


This grand dame of Hollywood will share stories and secrets from her life and career as once of the world’s most glamorous and intriguing actresses. There’s a question and answer session. Dame Joanie says every show is different, so if you liked her in Salford you can come again in Guildford. And if you didn’t? “Stay at home and watch Corrie,” she says.
