The Legend of King Arthur
Guildford Shakespeare Company ■ Fri 13 Oct- Sun 5 Nov

The Legend of King Arthur is a brand-new stage play written for Guildford Shakespeare company. The famous story of Arthur Pendragon will be told inside the atmospheric Spiegeltent, creating a unique experience. The plot follows Arthur as he faces the threat of the white dragon, unleashed by an unexpected adversary.

The Wipers Times
Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford ■ Mon 16 oct- Sat 21 Oct

The Wipers Times – based on an incredible true story – has come straight from the West End. Set in WW1 Ypres, two soldiers find a printing press in a bombed-out building. They decide to create a satirical newspaper that will lift the spirits of the front-line troops. The Wipers Times rolled off the press for two years, defying bomb and gas attacks and the disapproval of many of the top brass.

Around the World in 80 Days
■ The Rose Theatre, Kingston ■ Tues 17 to Sun 22 Oct

Jules Verne’s classic story has been a huge hit on the West End garnering brilliant reviews, and the tour has been no different. It stops off twice in Surrey on it’s way around, er, the UK: this week in Kingston and later in the month in Guildford, so you get a second bite of the cherry if don’t manage to catch it now.


Wisley Taste of Autumn Festival
Royal Horticultural garden, Wisley ■ Weds 18 Oct- Sun 22 Oct

Get in the seasonal spirit at Wisley’s Taste of Autumn Festival. There will be 30 different food and drink stalls for you to discover and indulge in, such as meat pies, spicy sausages and zingy cheese. This is not just a treat for the taste buds but a feast for the eyes with spectacular displays of pumpkins, squashes and gourds, grown at Wisley. Ever wondered How old the oldest apple tree is? Or what a ‘pippin’ is? Then head over to the Orchard for a family friendly exhibition exploring the world of apples.


Guildford Jazz Festival

The Guildford jazz festival is the first of a new annual event. Set over three days, it showcases the finest homegrown and international talent. There will be a mixture of both free and ticketed events. Events will be held in various locations around Guildford.

Creepy Creatures
RHS Garden Wisley, Woking ■ Sat 21 Oct- Sun 29 Oct

Keep the family busy over October half term and discover all there is to know about creepy creatures, planting seeds, trail and more. These family- friendly activities are free with garden admission. There will also be a pre- bookable pumpkin carving workshop for an additional £4.
