Gifted in Guildford

Find that something different for your loved ones this Christmas at the Gifted in Guildford pop up shop at the Guildford House Gallery. You’ll find a range of handcrafted goodies from the clever folk at the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen – from ceramics, glass and textiles to jewellery, wood, leather and metalwork. It’s open every day from 10am -4.30pm, except Sundays. And on Dec 23 the doors close at 1.30pm

The Traditions Of Christmas
■ Leeds Castle, nr Maidstone, Kent ■ now until 24 Dec

This Christmas the magnificent Castle rooms will be beautifully displayed with glittering decorations and fragrant pine trees styled around Christmas traditions, past and present. Christmas as we celebrate it today has its origins in Victorian Britain. Visit the Queen’s Room to see the style of tree, the Royal Family would have had and find out more about the influence of Victoria and Albert on our modern festive traditions.

The History Of Christmas Carols
■ Hever Castle, Edenbridge, Kent ■ now until 24 Dec

You’ve sung them in church, at school, or with friends and family and you know all of their words by heart, but do you know the stories behind some of the best-known Christmas carols? Walk through the rooms of the Castle adorned with beautiful decorations and welcoming log fires to learn about the history of these seasonal songs. Discover the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ trail and wander through the illuminated gardens as dusk falls. From now until December 10 (open Wed – Sun) then from December 11 – 24 (open Daily)

Finnish Rooftop Sauna

Warm up and unwind in a one-of-a-kind Finnish sauna experience in the heart of London – it’s what you’ve always wanted to do in London!  There’s a specially designed Nordic sauna that on the Queen Elizabeth Roof Terrace on the South Bank, combining beautiful Nordic design with a bespoke artistic commission. If 90 degrees celsius is a bit sweaty for you, cool down in the open air (or with cold water buckets – go on, dare you!), while enjoying some stonking views of the Thames below.

Steve Ingman: Young Contemporary Talent from The Ingram Collection

Steven Ingman is the Young Contemporary Talent winner and his work is described as innovative and exciting. He will be showcasing at The Lightbox his response to an artwork from The Ingram Collection. Ingman has produced a series of bold landscapes that demonstrate his reaction and reinterpretation of the urban settings around him. Entry is free.


Christmas at Kew
■ Kew Gardens, London ■ now until 1 Jan 2018

Such a brilliant time to visit Kew as they do the Crimbo thing so well with it one mile sparkling path winding its way through the world-famous Gardens. This year they promise a million twinkling lights, Singing Trees, ribbons of light and a flickering Fire Garden, plus Father C and his elves at the North Pole Village, vintage fairground rides (a fee for that one) and shopping. Worth going with the fam.


Christmas at Legoland
■ Legoland Windsor Resort ■ throughout Dec

Legoland is all twinkly lights and snow-dusted Christmas magic. Entry price for the Christmas season includes a visit to LEGO Santa in his magic grotto for kids who’ll receive a LEGO gift to take home. Grown ups aren’t forgotten  – they’ll receive a free hot drink and cookie and a large double shot of whisky to anaesthesise a day looking after children.

If you’re in Sarf London over Christmas, Winterville on Clapham Common’s  is well worth a look. There’s everything from an outdoor Ice Rink to a fairground, roller disco and free kids’ entertainment, but there’s lots more unusual stuff than at your standard Christmas Fair. We’re particularly loving the sound of  the Spiegeltent, where you’ll find cabaret, bingo, kids raves and, er, Mexican wrestling. What next, ‘Yoga On Ice’? Oh, I see, they have that too.


Christmas Glow at Wisley
■ Royal Horticultural Society ■ now until Wed 3 Jan 2018

Back for a third year running, the ‘Christmas Glow’ returns, but with the promise to be even bigger, brighter and better than ever before. Sparking to life the dark winter nights, there will be fantastical gigantic flowers, dramatic installations and brilliantly illuminated trees. Wander the trail and one will see… floating installations on the water creating rippling reflections, light shows on trees, and spectacular views of the historical Laboratory reflected in the Jellicoe Canal.


Cézanne Portrait
■ National Portrait Gallery, London ■ until 11 Feb 2018

Brings together over 50 of Cézanne’s portraits from collections across the world, including works which have never been on public display in the UK . Over a working life of some forty-five years, Cézanne made almost 1,000 paintings of which around 160 are portraits and this exhibition offers a fascinating insight into this central aspect of his work.


National Theatre Posters
■ Wolfson Gallery, National Theatre, South Bank, London ■ until 31 March 2018

Theatre posters advertising National Theatre productions from 1963 to the present day are on display in a free exhibition at the building until March. Curated by Rick Poynor, professor of Design and Visual Culture at the University of Reading. it explores changing promotional styles and features some famous productions.


■ Tate Modern, London ■ now until 2 April 2018

The Tate Modern’s comprehensive retrospective of Modigliani’s work is quite a treat. During his brief, turbulent life Modigliani developed a unique and instantly recognisable style. His nudes that are a highlight of the exhibition – with 12 nudes on display, this is the largest group ever reunited in the UK. First shown in 1917, police closed down his only ever solo exhibition on the grounds of indecency. Also expect sculptures, and portraits of his friends, lovers and supporters, including Pablo Picasso and his partner Jeanne Hébuterne.



Christmas M- wines and chocolate pairing

Stilettos don’t always have to be muddy… they can be covered in chocolate too! ‘Discover Cacao’ are hosting a chocolate and wine pairing with a delightful, limited edition selection of wine from M-Wines. A welcome drink on arrival, five individual M-Wines are paired with chocolate to suit. There will be a private showing of Nina Marie’s amazing chocolate shoe art and a presentation by M-Wines founder, Philip Morton, is all included in your ticket. Tickets: £25. BBC Good Food’s Festive Feast

The palace courtyards will be transformed into a stunning food lover’s wonderland. Enjoy a stunning array of artisan food, drink and get inspired by seasonal cookery demonstrations. Soak up the atmosphere and spirit with festive music from Courtyard Bandstand and carol singers by local choirs. Adult’s tickets: £15.90. Children’s tickets: £8.00.

Happy new year word on card holiday celebration

Dance and shimmer into the Christmas festivities at Denbies wine estate. On entrance of the party you will receive sparkling wine. A bespoke florist from Oxshot will guide you through the craft of making your very own wreath to take home and admire. Christmas Fair And Market
■ Leeds Castle, Maidstone, Kent ■ 9-10 Dec and 16-17 Dec

Visit the Christmas Market on the Cedar Lawn overlooking the Castle and wander through the stalls of seasonal gifts and specialist food and drink. The Mudlets enjoy it too because there’s a mini funfair as well as the chance to meet Father Christmas’ Reindeer in their stable.
