Things to do: This weekend

THEATRE: Rough Crossing
■ Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guidlford ■ Mon 11 – Sat 16 March

If you’ve been hibernating on the sofa, binge watching boxsets since the 1 Jan, drag your bottom off and get stuck into some cultcha. Rough Crossing, written by Tom Stoppard (yes, the fella who wrote Shakespeare in Love) and directed by Rachel Kavanagh (Wind In the Willows) comes to Guildford with EastEnders hottie John Partridge taking the lead role.

THEATRE: The Lady Vanishes
■ Richmond Theatre ■ Mon 11 – Sat 16 March

The Lady Vanishes is a gripping crime story, based on Alfred Hitchcock’s cinema classic, with a solid cast of actors including Juliet Mills (Wild At Heart) and Maxwell Caulfield (Dynasty). Grab your fur collar and seamed stockings, slick on a red lippy and pour yourself a martini, it’s that kinda show.

THEATRE: Madagascar The Musical
■ New Victoria Theatre, Woking ■ Tues 12 – Sat 16 Mar

Join Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria as they bound out of the zoo and onto the stage in this live musical spectacular. The musical features all of your favourite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

COMEDY: The Noise Next Door – Remix
■ Cranleigh Arts Centre ■ Fri 15 March
Brilliant improvisers The Noise Next Door are back doing a brand new full-length adult show. Taking audience suggestions, the cheeky quartet, transform them into funny scenes and songs with a blend of ludicrous characters, witty one-liners, epic stories, and explosive physicality.
■ Sandown Park Racecourse, Esher ■ Fri 15 – Sun 17 March

The event returns to Sandown after last year’s first ever super successful show bringing more than 160 exhibitors, including artists, printmakers, photographers, sculptors, ceramicists and independent galleries from all over the UK and Europe. This really is the perfect place to browse freely, chat to artists and pick up some affordable art – which is priced at between £40 and £4,000.

FAIR: Vintage Fashion Fair
■ Farnham Maltings ■ Sat 16 March

Browse and buy from the many stalls of beautiful vintage clothing, shoes, handbags, hats, jewellery and textiles including a selection of designer labels. All authentically vintage and dating from 1900s to 1980s. It’s from 10am-2pm, entry £2.

BALL: Help for Heroes Charity Ball
■ Farnham Castle ■ Sat 16 March

Champagne and canapés followed by a three course meal, charity auction and dancing – to raise money for Help for Heroes.  Tickets are £75 from Farnham Castle. The theme is black tie/elegance but feel free wear whacky specs!  Get tickets from Farnham Castle, tel 01252 720 402.

COMEDY: Guildford Gag House Comedy
■ The Back Room, The Star Inn, Guildford ■ Sat 16 Mar

Get your laughs at this monthly professional comedy club. The February line up includes funny people Josh Howie (pictured), Tom Toal, Jay Handley and Joe Hobbs.

KIDS’ THEATE: The Jungle Book
■ Electric Theatre, Guildford ■ Sat 16 March

Jellyfish Theatre brings their stage adaptation of The Jungle Book to Guildford. It’s a great show for the little ones and follows the story of Mowgi, the abandoned man-cub who grows up in the jungle with the wolf pack. Expect lots of fun and laughter. Shows are at 11.30am and 2.30pm.
