OOPS TOO LATE! GOPRO GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED. KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED FOR MORE GORGEOUS GOODIES ON MUDDY
When was the last time you went into a Flight Centre store? If you’re like me, you probably haven’t given the travel company much thought since you were at college trying to nail cheap summer flights with your mates (er, Thailand on £300, anyone?).
But you know what, it might be time to give them another go. Flight Centre has been quietly evolving, and a massive part of its business these days is in tailoring long-haul and European luxe holidays, but without the premium cost of more ‘glossy’ competitors. Liking that for starters! Plus this month the company launched its first ever Family Adventures Brochure appealing to families who want a more bespoke break.
Clearly Flight Centre is throwing lots of energy behind this new family offering, because anyone who brings their children into one of the 82 stores between now and Christmas Eve to discuss a holiday (you have to put your Kids In Charge – check out the vid below) will get a £250 voucher off their next hols, plus a chance to win a cool £20,000 towards a dream family adventure.
So what do kids actually want from a holiday? We asked the Muddy HQ team’s children to put in their top priorities for a perfect break (see below) – frankly expert Flight Centre manager Greg deserves a medal for sorting out these itineraries!
I want to go somewhere none of my friends have ever been to. I have heard of Bora Bora, is that nice? I don’t like big spiders. (Jack, 8)
Jack, you’re probably right that none of your friends have been to Bora Bora – it takes about 26 hours and 3 different planes to get there! Did you know that some of the scenery from the Disney movie Moana is based on Bora Bora? There are some amazing beaches, water sports (give paddle boarding a crack) you can do aqua safaris amongst the reefs. You don’t need to worry about big spiders here either, as there are cool little geckos that live on Bora Bora that make sure the spiders stay away. There is this really cool resort here called the St Regis, with a great kids club, so you can do a load of fun activities throughout your holiday too. Maybe stop off at San Francisco or Los Angeles to break up the journey – but LA does have Universal Studios and Legoland so that might swing it!
Can I go snowboarding and go to the beach in the same country in the same holiday? That would be cool. (Iris, 11)
Iris you most definitely can – head to San Francisco! Travel through the Yosemite National Park to the Mammoth Mountain ski area – you can ski here almost all year round – and stay at the Village Lodge. After you’ve had enough of snow, jump in the car and head towards LA. Stop off for a night en route near the Sequoia National Park- the redwood trees here are a sight to behold and they look like they go on for like ever! When you get to LA, stay at Hyatt Regency Newport beach. They have 3 heated outdoor pools here and is just across the road from the beach.
Or further afield, how about Australia? Start in Melbourne where you can go to the ski resorts in the UK summer holidays (the absolute best are the Snowy Mountains) and then you can head up to Cairns in tropical northern Queensland for brilliant beaches and the Great Barrier Reef for the most amazing snorkelling. If you like walking and nature, ask your parents to take you to the Daintree Rainforest – it’s the oldest rainforest in the world.
What’s the best watersports holiday in the world? I want to dive, water ski, sail, everything. And it needs to have people my age and some nightlife! (Finn, 16)
You need to go to Hawaii! It is literally the home of surfing and has tonnes of other cool water sports too. I will have a chat to the guys at Surf school Hawaii and we can sort you out a family surf lesson for a couple of hours at one of the world’s most famous beaches. In Honolulu I’d recommend staying at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki beach resort – bang on the beach, with plenty of restaurants and poolside buzz in the evening if you want a break from your parents.
I want to go to Pompeii for one day. The rest of the time I’d like to be stay in a hotel with a heated pool because I don’t like the cold ones, and I’d like a buffet restaurant, and a village I can walk into. (Cass, 9)
Cass this sounds amazing. You can start off in Naples (home of the pizza!) to see Pompeii and Vesuvius for the day (though maybe you’ll want to stay for two – it will be a bit more relaxing?), then head to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast for your hotel break – your parents will think it’s very romantic and there are lots of beautiful old villages for you to walk around. Stay at the Hilton Sorrento Palace hotel – it has a stunning outdoor pool as well as a heated indoor one so you will be all set!
If you can’t make it into store, how about sofa-surfing for holiday inspo instead? View the Family Adventures Brochure by clicking the link below and be in with the chance to win one of three GoPro cameras, courtesy of Muddy. Yeah, no wonder you’re smiling!
