Healing energy

In my search for good health and wellbeing, I've been to see energy healer Joanna Bristow-Watkins. Here's how it went.

What’s your take on alternative healing? I think most people fall into one of two camps on this: they’re either open to it or they’re really not open to it.

For the cynics, you might want to look away now – I’ve been exploring alternative therapies as a way to help deal with stress and to help me maintain a more positive outlook on life, and I’ve recently experienced a healing session with Joanna Bristow-Watkins, an energy healer (and also a Reiki master). But this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

Joanna has developed an ultra high vibrational Egyptian alchemy healing system which harnesses the angelic elemental healing rays of earth, air, fire water and spirit. Confused? I was too. But it all makes more sense when you’re there in the moment experiencing Joanna’s energy healing therapy.

It’s a healing system that evolved from Tera Mai Reiki and Seichem. Like Reiki and Seichem, it’s intuitive healing that adjusts the energy systems of the body to bring harmony and balance to life.

There’s no doubt this therapy isn’t for everyone. And if you’re a total cynical about this sort of thing, I wouldn’t even bother booking a session because any therapy is unlikely to be a success.

But if you’re a fan of Reiki or you’ve experienced energy healing before, you’re going to love what Joanna can do for you. She’s a leading authority on constructive energy body redistribution, and she’s passionate about what she does – although she doesn’t claim to have any special powers nor does she say she can perform miracles.

Joanna works on four levels of healing – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual – and a session is perhaps most similar to a Reiki session. Her treatment room is at her home in Walton-on-Thames and it’s a pleasant space with a water feature providing a soothing sound.

In my session, Joanna started by connecting us with the planets and calling in the elemental angels for water, earth, air, fire and spirits, as well as guardian angels, spiritual guides and Egyptian deities.

A session will also involve opening out your aura to allow any negative emotions that are released a smooth passage away from your body.

Joanna tunes into your body to feel issues and emotions and help you understand and release them. Healing is drawn through Joanna and also involves a metaphorical draining session of dark unwanted energy.

I won’t go into a detailed account of my healing because each one is very individual to the person who is receiving it. But one of the first things Joanna sensed were twinges of back pain coming down from my right shoulder which I had been experiencing for a couple of days, as well as some discomfort in my knees. The shoulder pain may have been physical – I’d spent the weekend painting an old chest of drawers. But the latter could mean I’ve been closed off to a something my kids have been (on their knees) pleading for.

The healing session lasted about an hour, and included Joanna restoring my positive energy using sound, and working on my chakras. She also used tuning forks, and put my auric field back in place, then finished with a chant.

Fortunately for me, Joanna didn’t find any major issues – just a few that needed realignment and readjusting, and I left the treatment room feeling relaxed and a little lighter.

It may have been the energy healing session that was responsible, or it may have been the time I spent talking to Joanna, a bit like a counselling session, or it may just have been all in my mind. Who knows. And really, who cares. Because this isn’t scientific or exact, but if you come away feeling like you’ve gained something positive, that’s surely a good thing.
