Gifts with a difference
Why sweat it on the high street buying cookie-cutter gifts when there's so much local talent flooding Christmas markets?
If you love top quality handcrafted work, the annual Gifted in Guildford pop-up shop in the Garden Room at Guildford House Gallery is a brilliant place to hunt our unique and unusual gifts for your family and friends. Or even yourself.
There is a mix of items for sale from as little as £5 to several hundred, so whether it is a big statement gift, something romantic, or a little stocking filler, you’ll find something to fit the bill.
Among this year’s tempting treats visitors will find two very different ranges of ceramics – from Jane Drown and Alan Wallis. Their designs complement the soft textures of textile work including quilts from Louise Bell, baskets and felt gifts from Nancy Shafee and Fee Fraser’s quirky pictures and small gifts.
Jewellery designs from Jackie Faris, Gabriella Sellors, new member Caroline Wiltshire and polymer clay artist Ruth Winchester will be sure to appeal for all ages. Ruth also makes small items like cheese knives – who doesn’t need a cheese knife on Christmas day. What a great idea for those men we find it difficult to choose for – or maybe a kaleidoscope from artist Frank Higgins?
Other items to tempt include unusual woven wall art by Jo Aylwin, luxurious woven silk scarves from Carolyn Wallis, leather designs from Phaedra Menas and designs in beautifully finished wood from Gregory Moreton and Andrew Poder.
