Restaurants

  • Giggling Squid

This small restaurant chain claims to produce staggeringly good Thai food. But does Giggling Squid live up to its own hype?

  • Tapas at the top bar

A mix of urban cool and relaxed piano bar, the new tapas bar at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre is perfect for a pre-show supper

  • Muddy eats: Cucina Italiana, Oxted

Muddy is lucky. Very lucky indeed. In our trips out to the finest eateries in this fair county, it would be easy to overlook those that had seemingly been around for years.

And you could be forgiven for thinking that Cucina Italiana in Oxted was so familiar to have always been there. It’s actually been open only a few years, moving in after a Chinese restaurant moved out. And in that time it’s developed one hell’va loyal following.

  • Muddy eats: Boxpark, Croydon

Apparently, Croydon is more hipster than Shoreditch and Dalston. Or so I keep hearing. I’m yet to be convinced – but there’s no doubting that Croydon has it’s own brand of cool. And it’s certainly on the up.

While CR0 has yet to be overrun by big beards and man buns, but it has recently seen the arrival of Boxpark the pop-up drinking and dining hub based on the same one that was set up in Shoreditch in 2011. And Westfield, whilst a little further away, is also on the horizon.

  • Muddy eats: Bears at the Packhouse, Farnham

So, you know the feeling. You’ve had your hair done, you’ve been waxed within an inch of your life, you’ve got a new outfit, your skin is dewy, your eyes sparkly, you’ve got your swagger going on. And People. Are. Checking. You. OUT. We all get a feel good day now and again. But believe […]

  • Muddy eats: Corretto in Godalming

Very excited to tell you about Corretto bar in Godalming. I’m forever on the trail of funky places that do things a little bit differently, and this bar has its cool credentials up in lights. It romped it in as best bar in the Muddy Awards, which probably tells you something right there. It opened at the […]

    • Honey for tea at Foxhills

This week it’s National Afternoon Tea week – and I can’t think of any better reason than that to scoff cakes and cream teas and have nice drinkies in a fancy-pants hotel. *Cough* Not that I need an excuse. As the Muddy middle will attest, I’ve had my fair share of afternoon teas – and recently I spent a delightful afternoon […]

    • Muddy eats: The Angel Upstairs, Guildford

I’ve been eyeballing The Angel Upstairs for a while. It only opened in February – funnily enough, upstairs at the Angel Hotel, on Guildford’s gorgeous cobbled High Street. Finally, last Friday, I had it sorted. I got myself all dolled up. Mr Muddy took the day off. And we arranged someone to come sit with the puppy. Off […]

      • Muddy Eats: Jack’s Kitchen, Kingston

Recently, I was invited to the opening of a new restaurant in Kingston called Jack’s Kitchen. I was a little hesitant about it, if I’m honest. Not because the menu didn’t look great, or the location – it overlooks the Thames – but because it’s in *whisper it* a Holiday Inn. I know – I’m being desperately snobby about […]

      • Muddy Eats: Dexter Burger bar, Purley

Who doesn’t love a burger, right? We certainly do in the Muddy Surrey house. But I’m also a bit discerning with what I eat. I prefer it when meat has been reared outdoors and grass fed. None of that mass produced meat for my family. I guess it comes from having grown up on an […]
