The dashing 1907 Restaurant is found inside the Brooklands Hotel, near Weybridge in Surrey. This modernist boutique hotel stands where the world famous Brooklands race track once reigned supreme. Built in 1907, it was the place to be seen during the golden days of British motor racing in the 1920s and 1930s.



Mercedes Benz World is across the road, and Brooklands Museum &#8211; where you&#8217;ll find a collection of early racing cars, motorbikes and airplanes, plus the first Concorde &#8211; is five minutes&#8217; walk.



Just 20 minutes from London, and less than 30 minutes from Heathrow Airport, it&#8217;s conveniently located about 10 minutes&#8217; drive from the M25 and A3. Weybridge Station, with direct trains to London Waterloo, is 10 minutes by taxi.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe">THE VIBE</h2>

This is a stylish dining experience which takes its inspiration from racing heyday of the Roaring Twenties and Thirties. Think glossy modernist styling with a big Art Deco influence. There are some quirky touches too, which nod to its motor racing and flying days &#8211; a huge chrome propeller in the 1907 Bar and the almost racing-circuit-style banquet seating in both bar and restaurant.



The new 1907 Glasshouse is an extension of the award-winning restaurant and features floor-to-ceiling windows which fully retract. There&#8217;s also a retractable roof. In keeping with the rest of this luxury hotel, styling is smart and sleek. 



It&#8217;s a fabulous space &#8211; perfect for enjoying alfresco dining on sunny days, but also on cooler days when the sun is shining. There are views of the Mercedes Benz tracks too. 



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>

The 1907 Restaurant has been awarded two AA Rosettes for its British-inspired menu, great service and fine selection of wines. 



The menu here is thoroughly modern and well honed, and yet not in anyway lacking in options with a small selection of starters also offered as mains.



It&#8217;s rare that I&#8217;m indecisive about my menu choices, but the options here were all very tempting. Duck Liver Parfait or Sesame Panko Prawns? Scottish Oak Smoked Salmon or Beetroot Tartare? Decisions, decisions! In the end, I went for the Beetroot Tartare and Mr M chose the Smoked Salmon. My dish looked striking on the plate and came served in a coconut velouté with beetroot purée, shaved coconut and chilli salsa. The flavours were beautifully subtle with dashes of sweet and spicy.



Had my starter not been so lovely, I&#8217;d have suffered severe FOMO when Mr M&#8217;s salmon arrived. A generous swirl of smoked salmon with lemon, dill, capers and peashoots on delicate toast wafers. A small taste test confirmed it was indeed as good as it looked.

For mains, I went for the Plaice Meuniére with samphire and sautéed new potatoes lightly drizzled in caper butter. I have one word: divine. 



Mr M&#8217;s Crispy Pressed Pork Belly looked like a work of art on the plate with sesame glazed bok choi and kimchi, Brooklands bang bang sauce and a flourish of pork popcorn on top. It was excellent, he said.

For puds, or sweet endings, as they&#8217;re called here, we decided to share two puds &#8211; the duo of golden chocolate mousse with white chocolate crumb and blackberry sorbet and fresh fruit salad with mango sorbet. The mouse giving a lovely hit of chocolate, and the fruit salad lovely and light for a warm summer&#8217;s day.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-kid-friendly">KID-FRIENDLY?</h2>



There&#8217;s a grown up feel to the restaurant and bar. but the hotel is family friendly so I don&#8217;t see well-behaved kids being a problem in the restaurant.

It&#8217;s all about the motor racing and aviation history here. <a href="https://surrey.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/brooklands-museum/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brooklands Museum</a> is r a five minute walk, and Mercedez Benz World, offering off-road and track driving packages, is across the road.&nbsp; You&#8217;re also quite near Legoland Windsor and <a href="https://surrey.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/painshill-cobham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Painshill</a>, the 18th century landscaped garden. Or &#8211; one of my favourite options &#8211; book into the BSpa and make a day of it.

Good for: A great spot for special occasions, as well as groups of friends or family gatherings. It&#8217;s also great for a couples get-together or a romantic lunch or diner for two. It&#8217;s also a great location for working lunches.



Not for: If modern isn&#8217;t your thing, you probably won&#8217;t love the sleek and shiny styling of the hotel.&nbsp;
