<p>This month it&#8217;s all about girl power as Sat 8 March is <strong><a href="https://www.internationalwomensday.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">International Women’s Day</a></strong> with a theme this year of Accelerate Action!</p>



<p>IWD strives to recognise the achievements of women, and to challenge the  imbalance in gender rights across the world. So, of course it&#8217;s best enjoyed in the company of fellow fabulous, talented and totally awesome women! Here’s 10 ways to see them and join them across the county.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-discover-the-female-creator-of-the-flower-fairies-at-watts-gallery-compton"><strong>Discover the female creator of the <a href="https://www.wattsgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/flower-fairies" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Flower Fairies</a> at Watts Gallery, Compton</strong></h3>



<p>From now until 27 April explore the life of Croydon born Cicely Mary Barker, the creator of the Flower Fairies, at Watts Gallery. First published in 1923, these botanically accurate fairies were inspired by real children that Cicely knew. See a selection of the original<em> </em>Flower Fairies alongside her personal sketches and family photographs at the artist&#8217;s village in the countryside outside Guildford. A great way to celebrate a fabulous woman on International Women&#8217;s Day.</p>

In the luxe surroundings of the Coppa Club in Guildford on Tuesday 11 March spend a morning celebrating International Women&#8217;s Day with like-minded local business owners. <p>Join Kate, an experimental artist, specialising in original art using recycled materials, textiles and acrylic on canvas at a workshop run from her studio at Wickham’s Stores on Limpsfield High Street, Limpsfield. Kate is also running a special Paint and Plate event on 12 March at the George and Dragon in Westerham on the Surrey/Kent border &#8211; a feast for the eyes and stomach!</p>

<p>Meet local authors as they share their journey and books on the evening of 11 March at Farnham Library. The event is part of the literary festival. Hear from <a href="https://www.margotshepherd.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Margot Shepherd</strong></a> who lives near Haslemere and works in research at the University of Surrey. Margot writes about family relationships with a particular emphasis on women and science from a female point of view. </p>

<p>Discover how the determination and bravery of the Suffragettes changed the way our country is today with this fascinating talk. It&#8217;s at Bourne Hall in Ewell on International Women&#8217;s Day &#8211; Sat 8 March. You&#8217;ll learn how Epsom was thrust into the national headlines by the death of Emily Davison at the Epsom Derby in June 1913. </p>
