Recently refurbished, the interiors are bang up to date – keeping many of the original features of this period building but throwing in contemporary and vintage touches. It’s the right side of stylish without being too try-hard.

There’s a large and vibrant dining room at The Castle, and a separate bar area plus two private dining rooms – the Market View Room, which overlooks Castle Street, and the more peaceful The Library – plus a courtyard garden.

Food is fresh, seasonal and locally-sourced as much a possible. It’s worth noting that they offer a menu that caters for most with decent dishes for vegans, veggies and those who have allergies. There’s also a great selection of drinks from award-winning English sparkling wine to locally brewed craft beer.
