The Drumming Snipe, Mayford

A warm and relaxing pub in Mayford Village, near Woking, with a large garden and heated terrace. Food is top notch. Muddy loves.

The Drumming Snipe pulls off the rather clever trick of offering something for everyone.

Family lunch with the nippers? There’s a big garden to keep them busy while you sip wine on the terrace. After-work drinks? Head to the large bar. Romantic dinner for two? Make a beeline for one of the quirky horse trailers in the garden. Dinner with friends? Settle into the cosy dining room.

Part of the Brucan Pubs collection, The Drumming Snipe is a real show-stopper. But we’d expect nothing less from a pub run by James Lyon Shaw, whose glittering CV started at The Ivy in London.

This is a pub where the food is centre stage – don’t expect tiny portions, deconstructed dishes, frills or foams – just superb cooking. Menus are traditional, with all the culinary flair you’d expect from a top-notch gastropub. Expect seasonal dishes like Jersey oysters, Hampshire asparagus and Scottish sea trout, plus classics such as slow-cooked lamb shoulder and flat-iron steak.

The Drumming Snipe exudes a handsome, elegant feel, with a range of unique spaces that cater for everything from small, cosy gatherings through to large, lavish celebrations.

There’s a warm, relaxed vibe throughout – ideal for a fab midweek meal, a delicious Sunday roast or a Friday night catch-up.

The Drumming Snipe prides itself on a diverse drinks selection, from cask ales by local brewers and ciders to a beautifully curated wine list offering an accessible range of bottles to suit all tastes and dishes, including English wines. Or, if cocktails are your thing, there’s a very decent choice of those too.
