Watts Gallery, Compton
A unique arts gallery and house in the heart of Surrey dedicated to the life of the Victorian-era artist G F Watts and his wife Mary.

A unique Arts & Crafts gem in the village of Compton, near Guildford, Watts Gallery is dedicated to the life and work of “England’s Michelangelo” G F Watts and his wife, artist and designer Mary Watts.
Founded in 1904, it’s the only gallery in the UK devoted to a single artist. Today, the gallery, studio and house form a vibrant cultural hub, with exhibitions, collections, contemporary art projects and community programmes bringing their legacy to life.
Visitors can explore Victorian paintings and sculpture, discover more about GF and Mary Watts at Watts Studios, and tour their home, Limnerslease. The Watts Contemporary Gallery also showcases work for sale, alongside a thoughtfully curated gift shop of books, homewares and more.
Don’t miss the magnificent Grade I-listed Watts Chapel, designed by Mary Watts and built with local community help. It’s a true highlight.
There’s a full programme of workshops, talks and family activities throughout the year, with something new each school holiday. Children under 16 go free. Check the website for details.
Set within beautiful gardens and grounds, the site also includes a Tea Room serving lunches and cream teas. It’s ideal for a post-gallery pause.
Open daily year-round, entry is required for Watts Gallery and Limnerslease (including temporary exhibitions). The chapel, Contemporary Gallery, shop, Tea Room, gardens and grounds are free to explore.
