<p>Hobbledown in Epsom is one of those rare unicorn days out that genuinely keeps everyone happy. Set across 50 acres and inspired by Angela Kecojevi’s children’s book, it’s part farm, part adventure playground, and part full-blown fantasy world.</p>



<p>There’s plenty to see and do, so come with time to spare – this is a full-day kind of place. We visited as a multi-generational crew (nieces aged 3 and 5, plus my 19-year-old), and it’s safe to say it hit the mark across the board. The little ones were completely enchanted – and honestly, the magic is pretty infectious for grown-ups too.</p>



<p>At the heart of it all is Hobbledown Village, a brilliantly imaginative play space made for climbing, exploring and getting just a little bit lost. Think rickety wooden towers, aerial walkways and underground tunnels, all set within a fantasy world where every turn brings a new adventure.</p>



<p>Beyond that, there’s a brilliant mix of animals, high ropes, jumping pillows, climbing towers and a well-thought-out indoor play barn for when the weather inevitably does its thing. Live characters, storytelling and animal encounters add an extra layer of magic, while a dedicated sensory play space keeps younger visitors happily occupied.</p>



<p>It might sound like a lot, but it’s all surprisingly manageable, with an easy-to-navigate layout and accessible pathways throughout. And on a practical note, parking is a breeze, with a large on-site car park.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-feathers-amp-fur">FEATHERS &amp; FUR</h2>

<p>Animals are a real highlight at Hobbledown, and the cuteness levels are off the charts. From exotic birds and meerkats to ponies, goats, alpacas and even camels, there’s plenty to keep animal lovers happy. Picking a favourite is no easy task… although Spud the baby capybara was <em>very</em> hard to beat. Then again, the meerkats standing upright, basking in the sun, were equally adorable.</p>



<p>If you’re keen to get a little closer, there are plenty of hands-on experiences. Alongside the ever-popular Meet the Lemurs, you can also meet the tortoises, feed the capybaras and meerkats, or try a birds of prey experience.</p>



<p>And for budding animal keepers, children aged six and over can sign up for a Zookeeper experience – an absolute dream for mini animal lovers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-action-amp-adventure">ACTION &amp; ADVENTURE</h2>

<p>If your crew prefers climbing, scrambling and burning off energy, you’re equally well covered. Hobbledown leans hard into adventure, with high ropes, jumping pillows, climbing towers and plenty of space to run wild.</p>



<p>Hobbledown Village is the standout – a wonderfully imaginative play area packed with wooden towers, aerial walkways and underground tunnels that little explorers can disappear into for hours. It’s the kind of place where they’ll want to go round “just one more time” (on repeat).</p>



<p>There’s also a brilliant indoor play barn for when the weather turns, meaning the fun doesn’t have to stop – rain or shine.</p>



<p>Yes, they’ll sleep very well on the way home.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-imaginarium">THE IMAGINARIUM </h2>

<p>If the weather turns (or you just fancy a change of pace), The Imaginarium is a brilliant indoor escape – part reptile house, part insectarium, part hands-on play zone&#8230; and entirely fascinating.</p>



<p>Step inside and you’re transported into a dimly lit, jungle-like world where curiosity is actively encouraged. There are animals &#8211; think lizards, snakes, spiders and frogs &#8211; but the big hit here is the interactive play.</p>



<p>This is a space designed for getting stuck in, with tunnels to crawl through, caves to explore, digitally enhanced sand tables and a giant lizard-shaped water play area that’s a big hit with younger visitors. Why are children always attracted to water?</p>



<p>There’s also a clever digital station with jungle animals that appear to interact when you get near to them. Kids can also colour in their own creations, scan them, and watch them come to life in a 3D virtual world – a lovely blend of creative and techy fun. It&#8217;s utterly fascinating &#8211; for smalls and bigs!</p>



<p><em>This is perfect for a breather (or a dry-out), but don’t expect to be in and out quickly – this one draws them in.</em></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>

<p>When it comes to refuelling, the main hub is the Hobnosh Bar, tucked inside the big barn (conveniently close to the indoor play barn and loos – always a win). The menu is pleasingly broad, covering all the family favourites – from chicken nuggets and fish goujons to falafel hotboxes and chicken katsu curry – alongside jacket potatoes, salads and wraps for something a little lighter.</p>



<p>For pit stops on the go, The Refreshments Cabin by the duck pond is perfect for grabbing a hot dog, ice cream or a much-needed caffeine fix, while the Merrymaker’s Shop near the entrance stocks a handy selection of drinks and snacks.</p>



<p>And on busier days, the Pizza Cottage fires up from 11.30am to 3.30pm, serving up thin-crust pizzas that are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser – with gluten-free bases and vegan cheese options available too.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-anything-else">ANYTHING ELSE?</h2>



<p>Hobbledown also offers birthday party packages throughout the year, as well as themed events during the school half term and holidays. And at Christmas there’s an enchanting Christmas village featuring a magical Santa’s Grotto, reindeer, twinkling lights and treat trails. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-dog-friendly">DOG FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Sadly not – Hobbledown is a no-dogs zone due to the animals on site. Assistance dogs are welcome, although there are some restrictions in areas such as animal walkthroughs, the Raptor Centre and petting zones. Best to leave your four-legged friend at home for this one.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-disability-access">DISABILITY ACCESS</h2>



<p>Accessibility is good overall, with hard-standing and gravel paths across much of the site, disabled parking, and accessible toilets in the Indoor Play Barn. A free carer ticket is available with valid DLA/PIP, Blue Badge or equivalent.</p>



<p>That said, some of the more natural play areas aren’t fully wheelchair-friendly, so it’s worth planning your route in advance.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-muddy-verdict">THE MUDDY VERDICT</h2>

<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Families with kids of all ages – it’s a brilliant, year-round day out with plenty to fire up imaginations, whatever the weather. Adventure-seekers will love the high ropes and climbing, while animal lovers will be completely in their element.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Teens who think they’re <em>far</em> too cool for anything remotely whimsical – although a close-up encounter with the lemurs might just win them over.</p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> <a href="https://www.hobbledown.com/epsom/plan-your-visit/opening-times-prices/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">General admission</a> is from £14.50-£24.50 depending on the time of year. It&#8217;s less for under twos (£7.50-£8.50), and under ones are free. </p>
