<p>It&#8217;s not a huge secret that Hollywood stars Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan have been spotted in Surrey. The pair are filming scenes for <em>The Family Plan 2</em>, the sequel to <em>The Family Plan</em>, released in 2023 on AppleTV+. They were spotted on a (fake) snowy Surrey street &#8211; aka Burwood park, a private estate near Walton-on-Thames &#8211; just before Christmas. But news just in&#8230; last week Wahlberg took to his Instagram from what is thought to be St Peter&#8217;s Church in Chertsey to offer prayers for the people of California. </p>



<p>Filming moved to Whitehall in London on the weekend, where Wahlberg and Monaghan were seen on a red London bus filming a fight scene with British actor Kit Harington. A release date for <em>The Family Plan 2</em> has not yet been announced.</p>

<p>Big news in Dorking, as a new Hollywood star is born! Keep your eyes peeled in upcoming Hollywood blockbuster, <em>Here</em>, for Dorking teenager Finn Guegan. The 14-year-old from Westcott stars in the film alongside Tom Hanks, Paul Bettany and Robin Wright. <em>Here</em>, based on the 2014 graphic novel by Richard McGuire, is a story about multiple families &#8211; through different generations &#8211; and the special place they inhabit. Finn plays the role of the young Richard Young. Tom Hanks is the older version of the character. The film, directed by Robert Zemeckis (<em>Back To The Future</em>, <em>Forrest Gump</em>, <em>Cast Away</em>) is out in cinemas this week. A special screening will be at Dorking Halls on Sun 19 Jan. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-additions-to-the-michelin-guide">New additions to the Michelin Guide</h2>

<p>While the new much sough-after stars for the Michelin Guide are not announced until next month (10 Feb, to be exact), there have been a bunch of new additions to the guide &#8211; including restaurants in Surrey. And although an acknowledgement in the guide isn&#8217;t quite up there with a sparkling star, it&#8217;s certainly not to be sniffed at. Perhaps it may even hint at the restaurants that may see stars in the future. This month, <a href="https://www.starlingbistro.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Starling</a> in Esher was added to the guide, along with French-inspired bistro <a href="https://www.mignonettebistro.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mignonette</a> in Richmond. Starling is the new restaurant opened by Michelin-starred chef Nick Beardshaw in August last year. He previously worked with celebrity chef Tom Kerridge for 14 years. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-marvellous-makeovers">Marvellous makeovers</h2>



<p>Riverside pub The Britannia is getting a swanky new look. The pub, which sits on the River Wey in Guildford town centre, is having a complete makeover to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds which will see gorgeous interiors throughout. Doors closed for the works on Sunday 5 January, and already much of the old decor has been stripped out. A brand new dark polished timber bar has been installed already, while the other areas set for an injection of sizzle are the dining rooms, kitchen and cellar. The bathrooms are also being totally gutted and replaced. The new-look pub is expected to reopen on Thurs 30 January.</p>



<p>Down the road in Dorking, The Spotted Dog has already had a glow up. It recently reopening with fresh new interiors as well as timber booths in the garden. The pub, on South Street in Dorking, has fab views out over Ranmore from its garden, so those booths will be lovely for catching up with friends when the days start getting longer. </p>

<p>Pizza lovers will be happy to hear that a new <a href="https://www.santamariapizzeria.com/locations" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Santa Maria</a> pizzeria opened in Kew on Mon 13 January. The restaurant will take over the premises where the critically acclaimed Hawthorn used to be on Station Parade. Many will remember the location as home to the Michelin-rated Glasshouse Restaurant for more than 20 years. At Santa Maria, diners can expect a menu that includes traditional Neapolitan pizzas. The Kew restaurant is the fifth Santa Maria venue.</p>



<p>In Sanderstead, near Croydon, a new café and restaurant, <a href="https://dishcult.com/restaurant/maple?sortOrder=0&amp;page=1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Maple</a>, has opened in Sovereign House on the Limpsfield Road. Open for all-day dining &#8211; from breakfast and brunch through to dinner &#8211; it&#8217;s led by the same team as South Croydon&#8217;s award-winning Yumn brasserie, which closed down in September 2024. Menus include grazing boards and dishes like grilled octopus, 12-hour Galloway beef short rip and yellow fin tuna steak.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-closing-down">Closing down</h2>



<p>Sad news incoming for those who love to shop antique and vintage goodies. The lovely interiors store, <a href="https://vintagefrog.co.uk/">Vintage Frog</a> is closing down its showroom in Gomshall. After almost five years of selling antique and vintage furniture and accessories, the shop is closing this week. Albert&#8217;s Coffee Bar has also shut its doors. But it&#8217;s not all doom and gloom, Vintage Frog will continue trading online via the website with a huge variety of new product lines and antique furnishings.</p>
