<p>The Guildford Shakespeare Company will to make its United States debut with a five-week run in New York this summer. Playing at 59E59 Theatre in the prestigiou Brits Off Broadway programme, the award-winning Surrey theatre company will present its acclaimed adaptation of Jane Austen’s <em>Pride &amp; Prejudice</em>. The show has just completed a second run in Guildford. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-restaurant-in-esher"><strong>New restaurant in Esher</strong></h2>



<p>News from the award-winning team behind Hummings in Esher is an exclusive new restaurant opening on the High Street. The as-yet-unnamed restaurant (watch this space for more details), will open this April serving different cuisines on a six-month rotation. Expect the best chefs, food, décor and ambience and you should never get bored of their changing menus.</p>

<p>A delicious woodfired pizza and chicken establishment has launched in Oxshott, serving (they claim,) the best pizza outside of London! A collab between AA Rosette winners The Victoria pub and Surrey Hills Delicatessen, <a href="https://cluckandcrusts.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cluck &amp; Crusts</a> is located at the back of the pub on the high street. On the menu are Neapolitan woodfired pizzas, whole rotisserie chickens and their ‘signature’ wood roasted buffalo wings. There are also fresh salads, garlic breads, sides, gravies and dips.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-story-sanctuary-sanderstead"><strong>The Story Sanctuary, Sanderstead</strong></h2>



<p>Plans are afoot to create a new health and wellbeing centre on the former Sanderstead Library site in South Croydon. Designed as a safe space for communities to explore histories, truths and dreams, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/jilliganito/p/DF9lMzAobXn/?img_index=1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Story Sanctuary</a> hopes to bring this vision to life but they need your help! <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-new-m-amp-s-foodhall-in-purley">New <strong>M&amp;S Foodhall in Purley</strong></h2>



<p>A new Marks and Spencer foodhall has been given the go-ahead on the site of the former Milk &amp; More Dairy in Purley. The three locally-listed former dairy buildings on Brighton Road will be converted into a market-style foodhall and a creative hub with 20 studio spaces for local creatives. Work is expected to start soon on rejuvenating the buildings which have been empty for a year. Watch this space for the latest news on the opening.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-surrey-restaurant-wins-prestigious-award"><strong>Surrey restaurant wins prestigious award</strong></h2>



<p>The Tudor Pass in Surrey (below), has been awarded four rosettes at the AA Awards 2025, an upgrade to the higher rating, which recognises that the venue offers “a truly outstanding gastronomic experience that ranks them among the very best in the UK”. The Tudor Pass at <a href="https://surrey.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/great-fosters-egham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Great Fosters</a> in Egham relaunched under chef Alex Payne in 2022 as an intimate dining room with seven tables, offering four and seven-course tasting menus. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-closures"><strong>Closures</strong></h2>



<p>But it&#8217;s sad news for two drinking spots in the county; The Foundary in Thames Ditton has closed suddenly after being relaunched in December 2023 citing the economic climate as a contributing factor. The pub was run by TV chef Lawrence Keogh and Mayfair mixologist Andrew Penegelly.</p>



<p>Secondly, much loved distillery The Gin Kitchen, once stocked in Fortnum and Mason, has announced it is permanently closed. Set up by two mums in 2016, the distillery also offered tasting and distilling experiences, as well as private parties with pizza &amp; tapas in their bar area.</p>
