Florries, Redhill

Happy news for users of the Memorial Park in Redhill as the pavilion café will reopen in July. With new owners and a new name, Florrie’s will run by local couple Guy Hassell and Kate Chisnall, (regulars may recognise Guy, who previously managed cafés in Reigate). Florrie’s will offer a range of freshly prepared sandwiches, sourdough toasties and salads, as well as pastries, cakes, ice-cream, smoothies with vegan options and barista-made coffee using locally roasted coffee beans. Trilogy, Camberley

Nightlife lovers will be pleased to hear the former Tru Club within the Square in Camberley reopened last month in the shape an all new Trilogy nightclub. The three-area venue is packed with Instagram-able features, two stunning new clubrooms, sumptuous bookable booths, a fantastic roof terrace plus a ‘Disco Disco’ party room, complete with illuminated dance floor so you can live out your Saturday Night Fever dreams!

Cranleigh redevelopment

Plans to rejuvenate areas around Cranleigh’s High Street have been submitted to Waverley Borough Council that could see a new café in an updated public square and breathe new life into the former Manns independent department store which closed in 2021. Stocklund Square between Sainsbury’s and PizzaExpress has been earmarked for the new café with outdoor seating, street furniture and a canopy. Exciting times – fingers crossed!

The Merry Harriers, Hambledon

One of Muddy’s favourite pubs the Merry Harriers has been treated to a glow up. The gastro eatery has had a stylish lick of paint and a lot of love in the shape of a stylish new bar. The centrepiece of the refurb was made from a single piece of oak from the Cowdrey Estate in Sussex, by local craftsman Joss Stoddart and is a thing of beauty. You can also enjoy a refreshed menu, private dining and stay in newly refurbished en-suite rooms above the pub and cute shepherds huts in the grounds.

Celebrity auction at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford

Don’t miss bidding on a slice of celebrity history as Dame Judi Dench’s fabulous 2006 Oscars gown is up for auction to help raise funds for the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, where she is a patron. The gown was created especially for Judi by world class designers, Sandeep Kholsa and Abu Jani for the Academy Awards where she was nominated as Best Actress for Mrs Henderson Presents. Other unique prizes include a solo flight with a fighter pilot, a signed Shane Warne cricket ball, and a round of golf with lunch at Beaverbrook with professional golfer Chris Moody. Auction ends on 18 June at 18.30 so be quick!

Another fave getting a major tart-up is dog-friendly pub aptly named The Golden Retriever next to Bracknell Forest, just over the Surrey border in Berks. Originally believed to have been a foresters cottage, dating back to 1841, it was also once dog kennels, which is where the name comes from! The popular spot has had a complete transformation inside and out and also offers a revamped menu. Paying homage to the pub’s traditional roots, the elegant interior and new furniture make a cosy spot to stop off after a long dog walk while the outside pergola makes the garden perfect for evening al fresco dining.

63rd+1st, Cobham

The stylish off-shoot of TGI Fridays is sadly closing all four UK sites including Cobham, Surrey which opened in May 2021. The cocktail-led bar and restaurant brand which launched just three years ago was owned by Hostmore who have cited the “difficult economic climate”.
