<p>If you haven&#8217;t yet been to Basil&#8217;s of Reigate, now is the time to go. The brand new wine shop and bar, which opened at number 73 on the High Street just before Christmas, has this week introduced wine tasting events &#8211; <a href="https://www.wearesocialgrapes.com/event-details/byob-aby-2025-03-07-12-30" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BYOB(aby)</a>. The events will be held on the first Friday of every month &#8211; in collaboration with Social Grapes &#8211; at 12.30pm. The first event is on Fri 7 March. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-plough-effingham"><a href="https://www.plougheffingham.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Plough</a>, Effingham</h2>



<p>The Plough in Effingham reopens this week following a four-week closure and almost £350,000 refurb. Part of the Punch Pubs group, the new Plough restaurant promises to be cosy, yet sophisticated, with antique tables and chairs alongside new fixed seating, brass wall lights and feature lamps to create a cosy glow. The bar is getting a spruce up, too, and a new snug area is being added with armchairs, pouffes and and eclectic tables and stools. The pub is also introducing a new menu. </p>

<p>Just opened at the popular Priory Farm Estate near Redhill is their new Shepherd’s Hut Café. Located in their Farm Shop and Gift Barn car park, the cute new café is the perfect place to enjoy a meal or cup of freshly brewed coffee, locally roasted by Chimney Fire. Serving a tempting selection of hot food, toasties, sandwiches, cakes and snacks, alongside hot and cold drinks and indoor and outdoor seating, it’s an ideal spot to relax. Dogs are welcome in the  outdoor area, and takeaway options are available too!</p>

<p>A night at a West End show can be magical but often expensive, so hurray for accessible live professional theatre on your doorstep! As part of <a href="https://www.bletchfest.org/events/the-river-runner" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>BletchFest</strong></a>, a community arts festival, Glimmer Theatre, in association with Farnham Maltings is hosting The River Runner for all the family on Valentine&#8217;s Day. The show is touring the south east and for the first time Bletchingley will host as part of its local festival in the village hall.</p>

<p>The excitement is building as work finally begins to fit out the new Thai hotspot Giggling Squid at 22b High Street, Cobham (the old 63rd+1st location.) Muddy spied them installing banquettes and their usual stunning floral interiors. We can&#8217;t wait!</p>

<p>Its sad news for local culture as Redhill&#8217;s Harlequin is in danger of closing its doors for good. The theatre has been closed since September 23, when dangerous concrete was discovered in the building. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council are carrying out tests but £10m of refurbishment work is needed to make it safe. Reports now suggest the theatre could close for good.</p>

<p>News just reached us that the award-winning Cappadocia restaurant is coming to Redhill soon. With a large site near the station, (next door to cinema and bowling complex The Light,) the Turkish eatery is bound to be a popular addition to the town. Watch this space for opening news.</p>

<p>And finally Brisk in Oxted has finally reopened. After being closed best part of a year the cute gourmet burger restaurant has relaunched as a Smash Burger and Sourdough Pizza spot. Good luck trying to get a table!</p>
