<p>It’s back… with bells on. <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/wisley/whats-on/glow-at-wisley" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>RHS Glow</strong></a> returns to Wisley gardens for another awe-inspiring night of twinkly trails and tinted trees. The after-dark event is a popular one on the Wisley calendar, with tickets selling fast. So take that’s your cue, people – book pronto! It&#8217;s on until Thursday 5 January.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-1-sparkle-and-light">1. Sparkle and light</h2>

<p>Who doesn’t need colour and light in their life at this dark time of year? RHS Glow is total spirit-lifter, out in the cold air, enjoying all the childlike wonder of a magical sensory circular walk. You&#8217;ll see the award-winning RHS gardens in a whole new light (no pun intended), with twinkling trails and colourful displays illuminating trees and winter blooms. Beautiful orchestral music makes it even more immersive and, as far as winter wellness goes, it’s way less painful than an ice bath.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-2-family-time">2. Family time</h2>

<p><span style="font-size: 19.04px">You can’t beat a gentle night-time stroll for a cross-generational get-together. The RHS Glow trail follows paved pathways &#8211; so they&#8217;re good for push chairs, mobility aids or just wobbly little legs. You can go at your own pace and there are plenty of helpful stewards and seats en route, so those with more tired legs </span>c<span style="font-size: 19.04px">an take a breather. It feels busy and communal, but never rushed.</span></p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-3-insta-gold">3. Insta gold</h2>

<p>Call me David Bailey! Yup, I was super-impressed with how well the lights photographed, even on my camera-phone. Night-time photography can be tricky, especially when you want to capture colour and light. How often have photographs failed to live up to the real-life visual? But at RHS Glow there&#8217;s no need to worry. Maybe it&#8217;s the artistry. Or the way the ground is cleverly lit. Or how they maximise reflections on the lake. But take it from me, your pictures will pop.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-4-garden-magic">4. Garden magic</h2>

<p>Love plants? There are plenty of treats for gardeners too as the trail winds and weaves offering up a glorious feast of phosphorescence. Beautiful birch trees &#8211; sans leaves &#8211; illuminated in in a kaleidoscope of changing colours, clusters of glowing dogwood and topiary mounds awash with warm amber light.</p>



<p>This year RHS Glow follows a route through the Seven Acres towards the Glasshouse. You&#8217;ll pass giant flowers that light up at the touch, and a sparkling giant star where you can capture a beautiful family shot for next year&#8217;s Christmas card. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-5-a-touch-of-romance">5. A touch of romance</h2>

<p>RHS Glow is surprisingly romantic. Is it the night skies? The pretty lights? The fresh air? The bird song? Or maybe for me, it was the mulled wine! But you can&#8217;t help get drawn in and ohh and ahh over all the pretty scenes. The Glasshouse is always a show-stopper &#8211; and a lovely dalliance into the tropics away from the British cool. Out the other side and there&#8217;s a magical walk across the lake on a floating pontoon &#8211; with beautiful views on the banks. And of course there&#8217;s Wisteria Walk with a stunning haze of purple lighting up the arches.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-6-festive-traditions">6. Festive traditions</h2>

<p>Let’s face it, there aren’t many Christmas activities that don’t involve stuffing yourself silly, and then falling asleep on the sofa. Add RHS Glow to your annual Boxing Day walk and create a wholesome new tradition to add to the list. The wonderful thing about RHS Glow is that while there&#8217;s a subtle festive vibe, it&#8217;s not overdone. A simple Christmas tree here, an artfully plonked elf there and that&#8217;s about it. So you&#8217;re getting the best of it all. And not a peep out of Mariah either!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-7-winter-chalets">7. Winter chalets</h2>

<p>Hungry? The Village Square takes on a European market vibe &#8211; albeit on a smaller scale. There&#8217;s with a range of food and drink available from the chalet huts including mulled wine and spiced apple juice, street food like curries, bratwurst and pulled pork rolls, plus sweet treats. The trail starts and ends here – so it’s easy to grab a bite before or after your walk. </p>



<p>But there&#8217;s also a wagon along the RHS Glow route where you can grab hot chocolates, mulled wine and lovely sweet treats like chocolate brownies.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-8-and-fancy-food-too">8. And fancy food too</h2>



<p>If you after something more substantial, the Terrace Restaurant has a festive two or three-course menu. Book before 19 December and get a complimentary glass of prosecco. It’s open from 4pm – 8.30pm (last sitting 7pm). </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-9-quiet-glow">9. Quiet Glow</h2>

<p>There are quieter nights for those who might benefit from a less bustling walk around RHS Glow, with a reduced number of people. Those are on Tues 17 Dec and Sun 29 Dec. </p>

<p>The fun doesn’t end when the trail stops. Head into the Wisley shop and garden centre for a spot of Christmas gift-hunting. You&#8217;ll find a gorgeous range of goodies from handcrafted vases to tissue wrapping paper, luxury bath products and, of course, plenty of plants.</p>
