Pitch your tent, darling – Surrey’s most magical family camp-out is back (and yes, it’s actually chic).



If the words “family camping” usually conjure up damp socks, burnt sausages and low-level marital tension, allow us to introduce a rather more Muddy-approved alternative. Enter The Big Farm Sleepover at Godstone Farm – a gloriously well-curated countryside escape that delivers all the wholesome outdoorsy vibes without the faff.



Running across select weekends in July and August, this two-night staycation-with-a-twist is quietly becoming one of Surrey’s hottest family tickets – and frankly, it’s easy to see why.

You do still pitch your own tent (we’re not totally glamping, people), but that’s about where the hard work ends. Once you’ve claimed your patch, the team swoops in to handle the rest – think meals sorted, activities planned and children entertained. Yes, really.



By day, you’ve got full run of the farm: playgrounds, animal trails and all the wholesome, screen-free fun you can muster. Come evening, things take a distinctly storybook turn. We’re talking golden-hour farm exclusivity, campfires crackling, marshmallows toasting and that smug glow of “look at us, nailing family life”.

Forget survival mode – this is far more boutique family festival than Bear Grylls bootcamp. You’ll bed down for two nights under canvas (and yes, actual sleep is entirely possible), with three full days to roam the farm as if it’s your own private estate. Crucially, dinner and breakfast are taken care of – so you can swan about without ever firing up a camping stove.



As the day visitors disappear, you’re left with exclusive after-hours access, meaning fewer crowds and more magical, golden-hour moments with the animals. Evenings are all about campfire storytelling, songs and toasted treats under the stars, while days bring hands-on animal encounters, forest-school-style activities like fire-lighting and nature crafts, and a Kids’ Club that quietly gifts parents a much-needed breather.

We grilled Godstone Farm super CEO Nicola Henderson on the usual camping concerns, and her answers are reassuringly no-nonsense:



“Camping with kids is stressful” Not here. Food, fun and logistics are all handled. You just show up and parent at a pleasant level.



“I’m not outdoorsy enough &#8211; you need experience to go camping” If you can wrestle a tent vaguely upright, you’re in. It&#8217;s the perfect camping trip for first-timers.



“The kids will get bored” Seriously? Between foam parties, treasure hunts and animal antics, it&#8217;s bedtime that becomes the real challenge.



“Camping means cooking though, right?” Absolutely not. Breakfast and dinner are included. No portable kitchen required. Civilisation remains intact.



“It’s just a campsite” It’s actually a full farm experience with VIP extras you don’t get as a day visitor.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-why-book-it">Why book it?</h2>



Because it’s that rare unicorn of a family event: genuinely fun for kids and relaxing for adults. You get the smug satisfaction of an outdoorsy escape, without sacrificing good food, organisation or your sanity.
