<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-where"><strong>WHAT? WHERE?</strong></h2>



<p>Langshott Manor is a elegant 16th century Elizabethan manor house tucked away down a pretty country lane in Horley, Surrey. Set amid three-acres of manicured gardens, it&#8217;s a boutique hotel with 22 individually-styled bedrooms, a restaurant, plus a several cosy lounges where afternoon tea is served. In the summer months, tea is also served on the terrace overlooking the pretty duck pond.</p>



<p>Langshott is also a popular venue for exclusive-use weddings, parties and corporate events, and being only a few miles from Gatwick Airport (but happily not under the flight path), it&#8217;s also a great place to stay before or after jetting of somewhere.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE VIBE</strong></h2>

<p>Historic and grand, Langshott oozes character and charm. More historic house than hotel, there&#8217;s an elegant intimacy here. The house has been beautifully restored and many of the original features are still in place including exposed timber beams, working fireplaces and grand leaded windows.</p>



<p>Whilst Langshott is laden with history, it treads a stylish line between cool heritage chic and traditional Tudor luxury &#8211; think all bold colours, rich furnishings and dark corners. </p>



<p>There are three lounges on the ground floor as well as the larger Mulberry dining room, each one with gorgeous views of the gardens, and its own stylish veneer of glamour. Upstairs, there&#8217;s another lounge, which is available for private hire. </p>

<p>Afternoon tea is served every day between 12 noon and 4pm &#8211; and it&#8217;s an indulgent and luxurious affair, so pace yourselves people. This is a marathon, not a sprint.</p>



<p>The staff are fabulous – gently ushering you to a table, before handing over leather-bound menus. We were booked for the Champagne Afternoon tea, so while a chilled glass of Laurent Perrier was placed in our hands we pondered over the tea and coffee selection.</p>



<p>My flat white coffee was a dull choice on my part, but why mess with a classic caffeine hit. My friend chose the Darjeeling, her go-to for high tea. </p>

<p>As the cake stand glided to our table, tiers of joy landed. We were treated to a heavenly array of sweet and savoury goodies including Tiramisu, orange posset, Black Forest cake, raspberry chou buns and macaroons.</p>



<p>The sarnies were equally elegant and crowd-pleasing. Poached salmon with cucumber dill créme fraîche, ham with a honey mustard mayo, classic cucumber and cream cheese and Coronation chicken on a brioche bun. There was also a delectable sausage and caramelised onion roll. </p>

<p>What about the scones? Fresh from the oven, served with generous amounts of clotted cream and jam. I love a sultana scone &#8211; and happily, at Langshott you get one plain and one sultana scone to scoff. Jam or cream first? Does anyone really care? For the record, it&#8217;s jam first for me, with piles of cream. Warning: the afternoon tea is generous, so skip breakfast and turn up starving. You’ll not want to miss a mouthful.</p>



<p>There are three afternoon teas to choose from &#8211; traditional, Prosecco afternoon tea and Champagne afternoon tea. Gluten free and vegetarian afternoon teas are also available &#8211; just let them know of any dietary requirements when you book.</p>

<p>It’s a dog friendly hotel, but your furry friends are not permitted in the restaurant, bar, and afternoon tea spaces.</p>

<p>Yes, the main restaurant and lounges are on the ground floor and there&#8217;s disabled access to public areas and some bedrooms. There is one fully accessible bedroom in the main hotel.</p>

<p>Langshott Manor is not far from the Surrey and Sussex border and an easy drive to the <a href="https://www.bluebell-railway.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bluebell Railway</a> &#8211; Sheffield Park Station is the best place to join the railway. <a href="https://www.denbies.co.uk/">Denbies Wine Estate</a> is just over 10 miles away, and there&#8217;s plenty to do there including some lovely walks.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE MUDDY VERDICT</strong></h2>



<p><strong>Good for:</strong> A luxurious afternoon treat with your mum, daughter, girlfriends or other half. Birthdays, other celebrations or just because!</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Those in a hurry. You’ll want to take your time with this.</p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> The traditional afternoon tea is £30 per person Monday to Friday and £32 per person on Saturday and Sunday. The Prosecco afternoon tea is £38 per person Monday to Friday and £40 on weekends, for Champagne it&#8217;s £40 per person Monday to Friday and £42 on weekends.</p>
