Property flirt: Period perfection
Is there anything more fun than peering around other people's houses, imagining yourself in situ and guessing the price? Er, nope! Let the nosiness commence.
I don’t know about you but I love a little snoop around someone else’s house. So let’s all push our noses up to the windows, peer in the cupboards, knock a few walls knowledgeably, and then the fun bit – guess how much it’s worth!
Today’s house of dreams really is a corker – a superb Victorian five-bedder with four reception rooms as well as a super-sized kitchen / breakfast room, conservatory, large study and a gym. Yes people, there’s also a gym!
There’s also a self-contained annex which includes a kitchen, double bedroom and bathroom – the perfect guest accommodation, teenager’s retreat, or even a home office space.
It’s called Pilgrims Coach House and it’s just a couple of miles outside the historic market town of Westerham, just across the border in Kent.
This gorgeous gaff is – strangely enough – on Pilgrims Way, set on two and a half acres of lush gardens and grounds. You get to the house via a private road, with electric gates leading to a large gravelled forecourt (with plenty of parking space). There’s also an oak-framed barn-style double garage.
Inside, you’ll be wowed by the mega-sized entry hall, which leads off to a large sitting room on the left, and a family room, dining room and the show-stopping kitchen / breakfast room on the right.
The house has been recently refurbished – and beautifully so – cleverly retaining the marvellous proportions and original character and architectural features, while also injecting a modern edge.
Upstairs, there are five bedrooms which includes a stunning master bedroom suite with ensuite bathroom and dressing room. If ever you wanted to have a Carrie Bradshaw moment, this is it!
In addition to the master suite, there’s a large landing or upstairs sitting are and four other bedrooms – two of them with ensuite bathrooms – as well as a family bathroom.
As you might expect the gardens are also pretty spectacular – including a walled garden, sweeping lawns and a terrace that traverses the full width of the house offering up a marvellous place for parties (there’s even a 7-seater hot tub!).
There’s also an orchard and a paddock that includes a small patch of ancient woodland.
The property sits up on the North Downs, with fabulous views. Nearby, there’s the North Downs Way and other wonderful walks. And then two miles down the road, and you’re in Westerham, which is as cute as can be with a high street packed with independent cafés, restaurants and shops.
The bigger town of Oxted, in Surrey, is just four miles away, with direct train services into central London in 30-40 minutes, and more extensive shopping.
Could it be any more perfect? I think not! But how much do you think it’s worth? Have a mull, pop your answer in the comments below, then see how close you came.
