Have you been to The Star in Witley lately? Oh but you must!

It’s part of Brucan Pubs, a boutique collection of gorgeous gastropubs that includes The Drumming Snipe in Mayford and The Greene Oak, The Greyhound and now The White Oak in Berkshire. This is a stylish gastropub near Godalming serving fabulous food with a few surprises to tickle your foodie tastebuds.

This group is owned and run by James Lyon Shaw who started his career at London’s celeb haunt The Ivy. You can spot some of that Ivy DNA (indulgent fuss-free classics, quality ingredients and seasonality) in their eateries. And we’re here for it!

The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is unpretentious. They make no secret of the fact they don’t do tiny portions, deconstructed dishes, frills or foams – just superb food. Menus are seasonal. The likes of Jersey oysters, cod cheeks, double chuck and rib cheeseburgers, Suffolk chicken and Fowey mussels grace the menus.

They also have a beautifully curated wine list which includes a selection of English wines to try. The cocktail menu is definitely something to behold too.

The Star has been beautifully restored from a once tired old boozer. It’s a stylish yet relaxed pub perfect for meeting, socialising and dining. It features a bar area at the front and a dining room at the back with plenty of cosy nooks and a big inglenook fireplace. Exposed brick feature walls, original oak beams and soft and squishy cushions create a cosy vibe – perfect for an impromptu drinks, leisurely lunch or dinner.

Outside, there’s a lovely courtyard garden, made for balmy summer nights but also with heated pods for when there’s a chill in the air, plus a large pergola for shade, or shelter!
