<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-where"><strong>WHAT? WHERE?</strong></h2>



<p>Just a few miles out of Weybridge,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.brooklandshotelsurrey.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brooklands Hotel</a> is on the historic Brooklands motor racing circuit. The famous Mercedes Benz World is right next door and the <a href="https://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brooklands Museum</a> is five minutes&#8217; walk away or a couple of minutes in the car.&nbsp;It&#8217;s easy to get to by car from the M25 and the A3, or if you&#8217;re coming via public transport, a 10 minute taxi from Weybridge Station will see you there nicely.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE VIBE</strong></h2>

<p>It&#8217;s a modernist glass hotel with lashings of 1920s and 30s Art Deco glamour. The front door brings you into an expansive atrium style reception with sleek black glass cabinets, polished mahogany and deep red accents. Two radiating ‘wings’ on either side incorporate 131 bedrooms from standard doubles to suites. There&#8217;s also the luxury BSpa, the 1907 Restaurant and Bar as well as meeting and conference rooms. </p>

<p>This is a stylish dining experience which takes its inspiration from racing heyday of the Twenties and Thirties. Like the rest of the hotel, it&#8217;s glossy and modern. There are some quirky touches too, though, which nod to its motor racing and flying heritage like huge chrome propellers in the 1907 bar and the almost racing circuit style of the banquet seating in both the bar and the restaurant.</p>



<p>The hotel describes its menu as classical with a modern interpretation, indulgent but genuine, and simple but effective &#8211; and I reckon that just about nails it. It&#8217;s not a large menu, but it&#8217;s a goodie &#8211; with dishes to suit most tastes.</p>



<p>To start I chose the beetroot and goats cheese salad which was a lovely combination of flavours and looked amazing on the plate. </p>

<p>Mr M went for the Tofugangjeong &#8211; crispy tofu in a spicy Japanese teriyaki barbecue sauce with sriracha mayonnaise, smoked nuts,sesame seeds and coriander. He was still raving about it the next day. </p>



<p>For mains it was the pan fried sea bream for me and a ribeye steak for him. The fish came with new potatoes and green beans, and was beautifully dressed in a lemon and dill beurre blanc, which is a deliciously light buttery lemon sauce. It was divine. </p>

<p>I always think I&#8217;ll skip pudding, but then one look at the menu and that idea swiftly moves on out of my head. And especially so when there&#8217;s anything with salted caramel. So the chocolate and salted caramel delice caught my eye, as did the mango and passionfruit cheesecake. We decided to order both and share &#8211; a fab choice. The delice was super chocolatey and rich, and the cheesecake was lovely and light &#8211; the perfect combination.</p>



<p>And the morning after? The hot and cold breakfast buffet offers a good selection of fresh fruit, smoothies, pastries, cereals and yoghurts. And there&#8217;s also all the usual hot options including vegetarian sausages.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>STAY</strong></h2>

<p>The hotel has 131 bedrooms and suites &#8211; many with views out over the race track. We stayed in the Percy Lambert Suite, a whopper of a room with a separate lounge and dining area, plus a study and dressing room. And a long decked terrace with outdoor furniture and views over the racetrack. Very swish!</p>



<p>There were complementary brownies and macaroons to feast on (I did), plus bottled water and fizz. The bed is what I&#8217;d return for in a heartbeat. It was enormous, and made for a perfect night&#8217;s sleep. Linens were super soft (my guess, high-grade Egyptian cotton) and the mattress was marshmallow-soft and perfectly plump. It&#8217;s this kind of luxe attention to detail that really stands out.</p>



<p>Also worth noting is the luxury bathroom with a walk-in rain shower and eco-friendly <em>Zero%</em> toiletries by Gilchrist and Soames. </p>

<p>Brooklands Hotel is a good place for families. There are family rooms available with twin-beds and comfy sofas, plus plenty of in-room entertainment. With Mercedes Benz World and Brooklands Museum on the doorstep, plus Thorpe Park and Legoland Windsor nearby, there&#8217;s plenty to do locally. There are <a href="https://www.brooklandshotelsurrey.com/offers-packages/">family packages</a> that include driving experiences at Mercedes Benz World, Brooklands Museum days out and both.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>AND DOGS, TOO?</strong></h2>



<p>Pets are not allowed inside the hotel, so this is one break Fido will have to miss out on.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>DISABILITY ACCESS</strong></h2>



<p>There is lift access throughout the hotel. On the ground floor the entrance, bar and restaurant are on one level. There are also extra large accessible rooms with widened doors to accommodate wheelchairs, and wet room bathrooms. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>OUT &amp; ABOUT</strong></h2>

<p>It&#8217;s all about the motor racing and aviation history here &#8211; so it&#8217;s practically compulsory to pop across the road to Mercedes Benz World. Entry is free to see the displays, but driving packages are paid-for and must be booked in advance. Brooklands Museum is only a few minutes further along in the car, or a five minute walk.&nbsp; You&#8217;re also quite near Legoland Windsor and Painshill, the 18th century landscaped garden is also nearby in Cobham. Or do what I did, and book into the BSpa &#8211; Brookland&#8217;s spa &#8211; for a day of indulgence.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE MUDDY VERDICT</strong></h2>

<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Those who love cars and spas. The spa is blissful, and there are packages to incorporate driving experiences if you want to do more than just watch the action on the track. If you&#8217;re not staying overnight, the restaurant is still worth a visit. Menus are adventurous, and food is excellent. And in the 1920s-inspired bar, you&#8217;ll get a mean cocktail I&#8217;m told!</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> If you really can&#8217;t tolerate motor racing and sleek modern styling, then perhaps this is not the pitstop for you.  </p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> A day-spa package (including a 50-minute facial) is from £85 per person. Dinner, Bed and Breakfast is from £128.50 per person. A weekend spa break (staying two nights and including use of the spa for two days plus two 25 minute treatments per person, a three-course dinner on one night plus breakfast both mornings) is from £269.50 per person. </p>
