<p>The historic village is a bit special with its buzzy High Street and a proudly staunch community spirit. You&#8217;ll find historic buildings aplenty, including The Anchor and the vine-covered Talbot Inn which dates back to the mid 1400s. Worth a mention too, is the <a href="https://www.ripleyccsurrey.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ripley Cricket Club</a>. At more than 275 years old, it&#8217;s one of the oldest clubs in the world.</p>



<p>The residents are a pleasingly eclectic bunch – from London expats and farmers to arty types with an entrepreneurial bent. Located halfway between Guildford and Woking, it&#8217;s in a fabulous spot too, close to two major Surrey towns. What&#8217;s not to love?</p>

<p>Where do we start? Foodies will be delighted with the gastronomic scene here. For relatively small town, it punches well above its weight. Those seeking a top quality dining experience should head to <a href="https://ripleyanchor.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Anchor</a>. With its&nbsp;Michelin Bib Gourmand status, the food here is worth going out of your way for. <a href="http://www.pinnockscoffeehouse.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pinnock&#8217;s Coffee House</a> offers seven different blends of coffee as well as 14 choices of artisan tea. <a href="http://nest-home.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nest Home and Café</a> is a pretty gift shop and café where you&#8217;ll find excellent Italian coffee and fresh locally-sourced food. They&#8217;ll also loan you a hamper and pack you a picnic if you want to de-camp to the village green for lunch. You don&#8217;t find that everywhere!</p>



<p><a href="https://www.thetalbotripley.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Talbot</a> is a pretty historic coaching inn with en-suite bedrooms, a restaurant, bar and event spaces. There&#8217;s a <em>lot</em> of history within these walls, not least the fact that it&#8217;s where Lord Nelson and Lady Emma Hamilton. Set in a beautiful 16th century oak-beamed building,&nbsp;<a href="https://tobycottage.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Toby Cottage</a> has been long been a favourite among locals, (it&#8217;s been here since the 1970s) as is the <a href="https://www.ripleycurrygarden.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ripley Curry Garden</a> that&#8217;s previously been awarded best Indian restaurant in Surrey.</p>

<p>Ripley is proud of its indie shops. There&#8217;s a delightfully eclectic mix &#8211; from bridal wear in a disused chapel (hello <a href="https://www.missbush.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Miss Bush Bridal</a>) and florists to interiors and gifts. <a href="https://www.richardsons-florist.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Richardsons Florist</a> has been on the High Street since the 1940s, and as well as flowers offers homeware and gifts. <a href="https://www.distillersofsurrey.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Distillers of Surrey</a> who produce Sherlock and Sons small-batch artisan gin host events and workshops in their distillery. They also have a lovely terrace for drinks. <a href="https://www.ripleynurseries.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ripley Nurseries and Farm Shop</a> is also worth a visit. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>Head a little further afield to Woking and you&#8217;ll find a large <a href="https://www.freedom-leisure.co.uk/welcome-to-woking/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Freedom Leisure</a> with a fitness gym, classes and swimming pool. <a href="https://www.formulafitness.fit/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Formula Fitness</a> offers personal training and fitness classes in Ripley village hall. <a href="http://ripleyvillagehall.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yoga classes</a> are also held in the Village Hall on the High Street, and <a href="https://www.rosewoodclinic.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rosewood Clinic</a> on Newark Lane offers aesthetics and injectables. GP services are at Woking and your closest <a href="https://keyosteopaths.com/contact-us/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">osteopath </a>is in nearby West Byfleet.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>The village green &#8211; one of the oldest in the country &#8211; hosts a highly popular monthly Farmers&#8217; Market, as well as the spectacular annual bonfire night and Christmas market, among other annual events. <a href="https://surreymuseums.org.uk/museum/ripley-local-history-museum/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Send and Ripley Museum</a>, once a Natwest Bank, hosts exhibitions which change every three months, and there is a popular sailing club, <a href="https://papercourt-sc.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Papercourt Sailing Club</a>. </p>

<p>The 240-acre <a href="https://www.rhs.org.uk/gardens/wisley" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS Gardens Wisley</a> is nearby, and here you&#8217;ll find one of the largest plant collections in the world in the numerous formal and informal decorative gardens, glasshouses and arboretum. The historic <a href="https://www.exploringsurreyspast.org.uk/themes/places/surrey/guildford/ripley/newark_priory/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Newark Priory</a>, one of the monasteries that was dissolved during the reign of King Henry VIII is currently in private ownership, but can be seen from the banks of the River Wey between Pyrford and Ripley. The&nbsp;<a href="https://dunsboroughpark.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dunsborough Park</a>&nbsp;landscape gardens are also worth booking a visit. And of course, there are some lovely walks along the banks of the River Wey. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>Ripley is about 10 mins from Woking where you&#8217;ll find the <a href="https://www.atgtickets.com/venues/new-victoria-theatre/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New Victoria Theatre</a>. There&#8217;s an excellent choice of touring shows at the theatre, including many direct from the West End. Ten minutes in the other direction is Guildford, home to <a href="https://glive.co.uk/Online/default.asp" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">G Live</a>, <a href="https://electric.theatre" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Electric Theatre</a> and the <a href="https://www.yvonne-arnaud.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yvonne Arnaud Theatre</a>, between them offering a host of comedy, music and theatre shows. If you want to learn more about the local heritage, the <a href="https://sendandripleyhistorysociety.co.uk/museum/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Send and Ripley Local History Museum</a> is open on Saturday mornings in the courtyard of the Village Hall.</p>

<p>Properties in Ripley sold for an average of just over £755,000 in the last year. The majority of sales are detached houses and you&#8217;re looking at an average of almost £810,000. Unusually, semi-detached properties went for more &#8211; averaging just over £976,000.</p>

<p><a href="http://ripleypreschool.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ripley Pre-school</a>, in the grounds of the former Ripley Primary School, is Ofsted-rated Good. <a href="https://www.gleneskschool.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Glenesk</a> is an independent pre-prep and nursery in the Horsley village, just a few minutes away from Ripley by car. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.ripleycourt.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ripley Court School</a>&nbsp;is a lovely Prep for children aged 3 – 13 yrs in the centre of the village; <a href="https://www.hoebridgeschool.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hoe Bridge School</a>, 10 mins away in Woking, is a co-ed school for children ages 2 – 16 years; and <a href="https://www.hsaschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Halstead St Andrew&#8217;s School</a> is an all-through co-ed school also in Woking. For state schools, <a href="https://www.sendcofe.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Send Church of England Primary School</a> is Ofsted-rated Good and the <a href="https://www.theraleigh.org/about-us/ofsted" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Raleigh School</a> in West Horsley is an Ofsted-rated Outstanding primary school. <a href="https://www.rgsg.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RGS</a> in Guildford or <a href="https://www.reeds.surrey.sch.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Reed&#8217;s School</a> in Cobham are both excellent senior school choices for boys. <a href="https://www.guildfordhigh.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Guildford High</a> and <a href="https://www.tormeadschool.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tormead</a>, in Guildford, and <a href="https://www.notredame.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Notre Dame </a>in Cobham are all excellent choices for girls.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Paul Weller has his recording studios here and is often spotted having coffee in Nest. Ripley is also the birthplace of Eric Clapton, and the resting place of his son, Conor, who is buried at St Mary Magdalen Church in the village.&nbsp;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>There&#8217;s no train station. The nearest is Woking, a 10 min drive, where you can get direct trains to London Waterloo in 45 mins.</p>
