<p>If your idea of a perfect afternoon involves cake, countryside vibes and a super pretty setting, then lean in and listen up. Afternoon tea at <a href="https://www.mayfieldlavender.com/visit-mayfield-glasshouse-cafe-and-gift-plant-shop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mayfield Lavender Glasshouse Café</a> is one of those quietly fabulous Surrey finds that feels both indulgent and like one of the best kept secrets.</p>



<p>You’ll find the Glasshouse Café just outside Epsom, set right on the edge of the photogenic lavender fields that will make your Instagram grid weep with joy. It&#8217;s just off Reigate Road near Drift Bridge, and happily there’s a large, stress-free car park on site &#8211; so getting there by car couldn&#8217;t be easier.</p>



<p>The café is open seven days a week, all year round, making it a reliable go-to whether you’re planning a summery lavender-soaked treat or a cosy winter catch-up by the fire. One important note for first-timers: don’t confuse it with its sister site, the 25-acre Mayfield Lavender Farm in Banstead, which is only open during the summer months. The Glasshouse Café is very much the all-seasons star.</p>

<p>Imagine a countryside conservatory with a romantic sensibility and effortless prettiness. The Glasshouse Café is delightfully rustic &#8211; all light-filled panes, stone flooring, timber panelling and a big, welcoming woodburning stove that keeps things gloriously toasty when the weather misbehaves. Some tables are dressed with faux blossom trees (yes, really &#8211; and yes, they’re charming rather than twee), and there are views out over the lavender fields.</p>



<p>Come summer, there’s outdoor seating so you can sip, nibble and gaze across purple rows.</p>

<p>This is a proper afternoon tea &#8211; generous, thoughtful and homemade. The savouries hit all the right notes, with classic egg and cress, smoked salmon with cream cheese, and chicken mayo sandwiches. They sit alongside plush, homemade sausage rolls and a yummy mini vegetable quiche with feta and Mediterranean vegetables.</p>



<p>Sweet things follow in luscious style. Expect rich chocolate brownies, a delicately judged lavender cake that’s fragrant without tipping into soapy territory, carrot and walnut cake, and homemade fruit scones with clotted cream and jam. Macarons add a little Parisian polish to proceedings. The menu does change slightly, which keeps things seasonal and gives regulars a reason to return.</p>



<p>To drink, there’s a gently sparkling, lavender-infused lemonade &#8211; totally on point &#8211; alongside your choice of tea or coffee. And if the occasion calls for it (or even if it doesn’t), prosecco is very much on the menu, as it should be.</p>

<p>You can&#8217;t stay overnight, but you <em>will</em> linger. The Glasshouse Café is part café, part gift shop, part plant-lover’s paradise. Expect shelves of tempting gifts, English wines, garden accessories and &#8211; naturally &#8211; lavender products, including toiletries, and culinary treats.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-kid-friendly">KID-FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Yes. There’s space to breathe, things to look at, and food that even fussy eaters will love (like cake!). Ideal for a relaxed family treat rather than a hushed, pinkies-up affair.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-and-dogs-too">AND DOGS, TOO?</h2>



<p>Dogs are very welcome on leads both inside and out at the Glasshouse Café, with doggie bowls provided.</p>

<p>The Glasshouse Café itself is accessible, with disabled parking close by, ramp access to the entrance, plenty of room to manoeuvre inside and flat grass/shingle surfaces for the cafe area.  There are accessible toilets inside the Glasshouse Café.&nbsp;Some outdoor areas around the fields may be uneven.</p>

<p>Don’t miss the Secret Lavender Garden, tucked alongside and very much living up to its name. During lavender season, timed sessions limit numbers to around 50 guests, making it a calmer, more contemplative alternative to the buzz at the Banstead Mayfield Lavender Farm. Picnics are welcome. </p>



<p>In the summer season (June-Aug), head to Mayfield Lavender&#8217;s 25-acre fields in Banstead where you take a wander in the fields.</p>

<p><strong>Good for:</strong> Catch-ups with friends, celebratory afternoons, hen dos, baby showers, birthdays and private events (there’s also a dedicated events space that’s perfect for it all).</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Those who like their afternoon tea ultra-formal or strictly traditional  this is more rustic-chic than silver-service.</p>
