<p>This upmarket country club hotel sits just outside Ottershaw, in the heart of the Surrey countryside near Chertsey.&nbsp;It&#8217;s a heavenly country house hotel with an extensive range of leisure facilities including three golf courses, 9 tennis courts, padel and pickleball courts and five swimming pools, plus established woodlands and gorgeous landscaped gardens. There&#8217;s also a spa and a gym, plus fitness studios.</p>



<p>There’s no denying the leisure facilities are a highlight, but Foxhills has far more to offer &#8211; especially for foodies. </p>



<p>The stunning Gothic revival Manor House &#8211; home to the new Lomri restaurant &#8211; sits in the heart of a 400-acre estate which dates back to the 1780s. It&#8217;s the former home of playboy politician Sir Charles James Fox and as destination dining goes, it&#8217;s pretty spectacular. </p>



<p>The resort is close to both Guildford and Woking, and about an hour from central London. Heathrow Airport is 20 minutes away, and the M25 and M3 are both just 10 minutes away and easily accessible.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-vibe"><strong>THE VIBE</strong></h2>

<p>There&#8217;s plenty of wow at Foxhills, starting the moment you sweep up the driveway &#8211; flanked by woodland, fairways and lawns.</p>



<p>The Manor House is the undisputed centrepiece, but the resort stretches far beyond it. Accommodation is tucked away in various idyllic spots, from a charming cobbled courtyard with a swimming pool to woodland settings. Families are particularly well-catered for thanks to The Pavilion, a dedicated hub featuring indoor and outdoor pools, soft play, a games room, crèche, art studio and family-friendly restaurant, Flo&#8217;s. The HealthSpa occupies its own tranquil corner of the estate, opening onto a serene zen garden complete with a natural pool purified by plants and minerals, plus an outdoor hot tub and sauna cabin.</p>



<p>But let&#8217;s return to that spectacular Manor Mouse. Beautifully redesigned by Alex Michaelis &#8211; the creative force behind interiors at Soho House and The Groucho Club &#8211; it&#8217;s dramatic, decadent and full of personality, with striking murals, bold colours and plenty of unexpected touches.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff"><strong>SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</strong></h2>

<p>Lomri is Foxhill’s new signature restaurant, launched in spring 2026 as part of a £1.5m transformation of the Manor House. Named after the Indian word for fox, it brings contemporary fine Indian dining to Foxhills under chef Achal Aggarwal, whose menus are inspired by the spice routes of India.</p>



<p>Aggarwal brings serious international pedigree to the kitchen, having trained in Tokyo and New York and held senior roles with The Leela, Hyatt and several Oberoi Hotels. He also played a key role in introducing the acclaimed Wasabi restaurant to Delhi.</p>



<p>There are three main dining areas, plus a bar, lounges, and a patio overlooking the grounds. Upstairs, there are several elegant private function rooms.</p>



<p>And then there&#8217;s the food. This is Indian dining firmly in fine-dining territory and about as far from your standard Friday night curry as it&#8217;s possible to get.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-authentic-indian">Authentic Indian</h3>

<p>We start with crispy squid bhajia, shami kebab with mint chutney, and pani poori filled with tamarind, mint and spiced water. The pani poori was the star of the show for me. Delicate, flavour-packed, it&#8217;s one of those dishes that&#8217;s as much fun to eat as it is delicious.</p>



<p>For mains, we shared a selection of dishes including the wagyu beef pepper fry, a southern Indian classic elevated with British wagyu, curry leaf and tamarind. Rich, fragrant and packed with flavour, it was a real standout. Equally impressive was the Goan prawn curry, while sides of khatey aubergine with tangy peanut and coconut sauce and a gorgeous dal makhani &#8211; slow-cooked for up to 24 hours before being finished with butter and fenugreek &#8211; disappeared quickly. Add rice and roti and you have the sort of meal your telling friends about for months to come.</p>

<p>Pudding includes jalebi &#8211; a well-known Indian sweet of crisp fried spirals soaked in saffron sugar syrup. The perfect sweet finish to the meal. And there’s a well-curated wine list, with something to suit all tastes and budgets.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-breakfast-amp-afternoon-tea">Breakfast &amp; afternoon tea</h3>

<p>Breakfast the following morning is a relaxed affair, with a buffet of cereals, bircher muesli, yoghurt and pastries, alongside a selection of hot dishes available to order.</p>



<p>Afternoon tea, meanwhile, is a decidedly indulgent experience. Guests can choose from a selection of 10 teas, including Persian rose, green sencha and masala chai, alongside coffee. There&#8217;s also the option to add Champagne.</p>



<p>Beautifully presented tiered stands feature an assortment of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and a selection of delicate patisserie. Sweet treats might include rhubarb and custard macarons, passionfruit meringue pie and rich espresso dark chocolate marquise. It&#8217;s a classic afternoon tea with a contemporary twist, served in elegant surroundings and well worth making time for.</p>

<p>There are 66 bedrooms at Foxhills, ranging from cosy standard rooms to spacious suites and family-friendly accommodation. Decor is elegant and understated, with calming neutral tones, soft greens and thoughtful touches throughout. Most rooms feature both a bath and walk-in shower, while bathrobes and slippers come as standard.</p>



<p>Our Executive Suite in Lyne House felt suitably indulgent, with velvet sofas, stylish lighting, oversized mirrors and a super king-size bed, plus a balcony overlooking the woodland. The bed was wonderfully comfortable and exactly what was needed after an afternoon in the spa, followed by a memorable dinner and a glass (or two) of wine. Sleep came very easily indeed.</p>

<p>Foxhills was named ‘Best for Families’ at the 2023 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence – which says it all really. As well as the huge array of activities for children, and the family-friendly amenities plus dedicated family restaurant in The Pavilion, there are family suites with interconnecting rooms.</p>

<p>With the leisure facilities at Foxhills &#8211; including two championship golf courses &#8211; there’s more than enough to keep you entertained. But if you fancy venturing further afield, Thorpe Park is 10 minutes by car, Legoland Windsor is 20 minutes. Brooklands Museum and Mercedes-Benz World are also close by, both within roughly 15 minutes’ drive.</p>

Lomri’s menu is made for sharing and enjoying with inventive, beautifully executed dishes that move far beyond the familiar &#8211; from refined street-food-inspired plates to rich, layered curries and elegant vegetarian sides. It’s ideal for a special occasion meal with friends or family, with attentive, polished service.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> This isn’t a casual curry-night stop or a quick drop-in dinner. Lomri is a destination restaurant, designed for lingering, exploring the menu and making an occasion of the experience.</p>
