<p>It’s hard to test out an event venue when your big birthday is still several months way &#8211; or (shhh!) already gone by &#8211; so I did the next best thing. I spent an afternoon wafting around the grand manor house and gardens playing make-believe.</p>

<p>More a private house than hotel, this 16th century Elizabethan manor has a fascinating 500-year history. Set within three acres of beautifully maintained gardens, it&#8217;s located just a few miles from Gatwick Airport, just outside the town of Horley in Surrey. </p>

<p>Langshott is the perfect size for a whole-house takeover &#8211; large enough for a party, small enough to feel intimate and special. And exclusive use means exactly that &#8211; you can hire the whole venue including all 22 bedrooms plus the house and gardens from 3pm until 7am the following day. </p>



<p>Langshott also offers a half-house takeover, which includes the Tudor Manor and the Royal Lodge, comprising 14 bedrooms, with the run of the manor for dining and relaxing.</p>



<p>You&#8217;d be in great company too. The house has been home to many great families over the last 500 years, including Richard Evelyn, brother of the famous diarist John Evelyn, and his wife during the reign of King Charles II.</p>

<p>All events at Langshott Manor are bespoke &#8211; so dream your best party dream, and the team at Langshott can make it happen. There are plenty of options. </p>



<p>From relaxed BBQs to elegant tasting menus, Langshott will craft your perfect party &#8211; whether it’s canapés and cakes or late-night sliders and fish &amp; chips. The Mulberry is the largest reception room and ideal for anything from a grand gala supper for up to 70 guests to a more rustic barbecue for up to 120 that spills out through the gorgeous glass patio doors onto the terraces and gardens. The gardens are spectacular with sculptured hedges, stunning blossom trees, ornamental urns and a pretty duck pond.</p>



<p>The collection of smaller lounges offer up plenty of options for fun &#8211; and as the entire manor is yours for the day you may wish to take tea in the Morning Room, play boardgames by the fire in the lounge or perhaps enjoy cocktails in St Peter&#8217;s Bar. The choice is yours.</p>

<p>Food wise, Langshott is literally your oyster &#8211; and the chefs here can cater to anything from from a canapé reception to a spectacular three-course dinner. Looking for inspiration? How about tartlet of smoked salmon with quail&#8217;s eggs and Hollandaise sauce alongside goat&#8217;s cheese and chutney sable, smoked paprika and parmesan cheese straws, and ham hock croquettes with honey and mustard dips. You&#8217;re looking at around £9.50 per person for four bites each.</p>



<p>If a spectacular supper is more your thing &#8211; the three-course menu costs around £55 per person and can include dishes like tian of crab and avocado with smoked salmon and tarragon dressing, Jerusalem artichoke salad with goat&#8217;s curd, truffle and hazelnuts to start. For mains you might opt for confit leg of Gressingham duck, a roasted rump of beef or a seared fillet of Scottish salmon. Deserts can include an apple tarte tatin, dark chocolate fondant or passionfruit delice. </p>

<p>The best thing about the whole-house takeover &#8211; apart from living like a Lord of Lady of the manor for the day &#8211; has to be the fact you don&#8217;t have to go home when the party&#8217;s over. Just a short stagger to your room or suite, and you can sink into plump pillows and luxury linens.</p>



<p>There are 22 rooms and suites at Langshott which come in different shapes and sizes from grand and traditional suites to a quaint and cosy doubles. Bedrooms are spread across the main Tudor manor house, the Moat Mews and the garden and each one is individually styled with luxury at its core. Think ornate four-poster beds with grand velvet curtains, freestanding bathtubs, private terraces and decks, and lovely luxe touches like fluffy robes and slippers plus TempleSpa toiletries. There&#8217;s a nod to the rolling Surrey hills with beautiful bold botanic prints</p>



<p>In keeping with history of this Tudor manor, rooms are named after King Henry VIII and his wives, ors famous castles like Leeds.</p>

<p><strong>Good for:</strong> The whole-house takeover is a wonderful option for a birthday party, wedding vow renewal or anniversary celebration, large family gathering or a work event. It&#8217;s location just a few miles from Gatwick also makes it ideal for guests coming from afar.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Langshott is fully of history, charm and character. If you&#8217;re after a modern venue with crisp clean lines then this might not suit.</p>



<p><strong>The damage:</strong> To hire the whole house, including 22 bedrooms on a B&amp;B basis, starts at £6,500. Exclusive use of the Manor House only starts at £4,500. An intimate wedding for up to 20 guests, including an overnight stay for the bride and groom on their wedding night, starts at £1,750.</p>
