Wedding special: 18 gorgeous venues in Surrey

Planning a wedding? Don't book anything until you've checked out the first of a two-part Muddy guide o the ultimate Surrey wedding. First up: the coolest, quirkiest and most romantic venues.


Want a wedding with wow-factor? Allow us to introduce Botleys Mansion near Chertsey. This grand Palladian country house is available for exclusive use, and offers three stylish spaces to say ‘I do’, as well as gorgeous reception areas and luxury accommodation. For the ceremony, the Green Room is a romantic and intimate space with seating for 130 guests, or for larger weddings there’s the Atrium with its impressive grand staircase and sparkling chandeliers. In the summer months, there’s also the option of taking it outside into the Temple Gardens. For the reception, the Atrium is ultra-glam, or for an elegant more intimate dining space there’s the Green Room. The banqueting teams will help you chose the perfect menu, which will prepared by the in-house chefs, and when the party’s over the bride and groom can retire to the luxurious bridal suite with a four poster bed and beautiful views across the countryside. There are also another 11 stylish guest bedrooms.

Say ‘I do’ with a view at this gorgeous country house manor in Charlwood near Horley. Surrounded by 35 acres of ancient woodland and with views out over the Surrey Hills, Stanhill Court offers up plenty of options for your wedding – from a traditional country manor house setting to a marquee and tipi weddings in the grounds. If you want the whole place to yourself, there’s the option of booking out the entire hotel, including the accommodation, grounds and gardens for the exclusive use of you and your guests. There’s a wedding coordinator on hand to help everything run smoothly.

If you want a romantic wedding amongst beautiful grapevines, then you can’t go past England’s biggest wine estate in the heart of the Surrey Hills. Set on 265 acres of vineyards with stunning views out over the vines, Box Hill and the North Downs, Denbies has everything the loved-up couple might want for their wedding day. There’s a choice of three rooms or a pretty outdoor courtyard for the ceremony. Move into the candle-lit wine cellar for reception drinks, before a wedding breakfast in either the Conservatory Atrium (250 guests) or the Garden Room (up to 70 guests). Or, for a more intimate affair The Gallery Restaurant – which has stunning views – can seat between 30 and 60 guests. And there’s no need to leave the venue when the party’s over – there’s accommodation at Denbies Vineyard Hotel. As you’d expect from a wedding specialist, Denbies has a specialist wedding team to help with the planning.

THE PLOUGH INN, Coldharbour

If you’re planning a small wedding and want something intimate and rustic for your reception, the Barn at the Plough Inn in the pretty village of Coldharbour would make a great venue. It has an open fire for winter weddings, or in the summer the doors open onto the pub’s country cottage gardens. The pub also offers accommodation, with six boutique rooms – so there’s space for the bride and groom and wedding party.


Slightly off-radar and all the better for it, Barnett Hill is a swoony Queen Anne style mansion oozing style and elegance. If it’s intimate you’re after, The Drawing Room is a gorgeous space looking out over the gardens with space for 40 guests, or if you’re booking ahead and want a bigger space the Garden Suite can accommodate up to 80. There’s an emphasis on elegant grandeur and period features aplenty – big stone fireplaces, wood panelling, sweeping staircases, leaded glass windows and more. Plus there are plenty of rooms, too, for the the wedding party and guests.


For a rustic country style wedding, The Running Horses is a brilliant Surrey venue. The private wood-panelled dining room, just off the pub’s main dining room, can accommodate 25 people – so it also happens to be perfect for an intimate affair. And with the beautiful and historic St Michael’s Church just across the road, plus boutique rooms at the pub, you’ve pretty much got everything covered.


The exquisite Tudor mansion house at Great Fosters certainly has wedding wow factor. Set amongst 50 acres of stunning gardens and parkland, Great Fosters it’s well positioned just outside of Greater London and just a 20 minute whizz to London Heathrow . With just one wedding each day, you can exchange or renew your vows in the majestic surroundings of The Orangery, host reception drinks in the Painted Hall and celebrate your wedding breakfast with loved ones in the Tithe Barn. They offer a range of flexible packages.


We’ve struck ‘I do’ gold. Going for modern English romance and looking for an intimate, chic wedding venue that oozes style with lush interiors and is surrounded by stunning countryside? Hello Langshott Manor. This pretty 16th-Century manor house is set amongst beautifully manicured gardens, with a bell tower and water-filled moat. The Mulberry Suite can accommodate up to 60 guests, and does ‘intimate’ very well, or if you want things even cosier try the wood-pannelled Boardroom for up to 22 people. There are also boutique rooms.


A beautiful setting, tucked away in the countryside just south of Guildford, Gate Street Barn is the 2021 Muddy Awards winner for Best Wedding Venue in Surrey. The rustic Barn is the perfect place for your ceremony, before heading to the Orangery and landscaped gardens for a drinks reception. As well as the Barn and the Orangery, there’s also the Pheasantry. There are also two spaces to get ready for the day – the Tack Room (with plenty of natural light, mirrors, seating and ensuite bathroom) and The Dairy (a cosy space with its own bar, woodburning stove and comfy sofas), plus five options for accommodation.

WARREN HOUSEKingston-upon-Thames

Sitting on 4 acres beautiful landscaped gardens in the grounds of the exclusive Coombe Estate, Warren House is a Grade II listed Victorian manor with a timeless elegance that makes it perfect for a wedding. Inside it’s all authentic original fireplaces, double-height ceilings and bright airy spaces. There are several different rooms where you can hold reception drinks and a wedding breakfast. And the venue also has 46 bedrooms, so there’s plenty of space for the bridal party to stay.


 If it’s the romance of a riverside setting you’re after, The Runnymede-on-Thames has this and more. You can arrive via a private boat – and then everything you could want for your wedding day is all in this one location including a luxury spa, and accommodation for the bridal party and guests. The Grand Union Suite is licensed for up to 140 people for a civil ceremony and accommodates up to 250 for the wedding reception. Or for something more intimate there’s the Riverside Suite, licensed for 70 people for a civil ceremony and up 80 people for a buffet dinner or 100 for a sit-down meal with dancing. The hotel has its own team of wedding planners to help arrange your day.


A 400-acre estate with stunning manor house, golf course and spa on site – now that’s what I call a great location for a wedding. There’s a dedicated wedding team on hand to smooth the way and flexibility to create the wedding day of your dreams with a choice of venue spaces to accommodate up to 160 guests. For guests staying overnight in one of the 70 guest rooms, the resort’s Country Club facilities are available including swimming pool, tennis courts and nine-hole Manor golf course.


Beaverbrook: A luxury Grade II listed Victorian mansion house and hotel near Leatherhead which offers a range of spaces for small private celebrations of up to 40 people. There are also rooms, and a spa.

The Talbot Inn: Historic, relaxed and romantic – with the occasional quirky touch – this 15th century coaching inn in Ripley has a capacity for 100 guests in the Wisley Suite plus more intimate space in Emma’s Room. There are also rooms.

Fiesta Fields: If you want to channel a truly boho festival vibe, there’s only one thing for it – get married in a field! Think tipis, tents, camping and glamping. Fiesta Fields have eight properties throughout Surrey and Sussex and offer a range of packages.

Brooklands Hotel: Overlooking the famous Brooklands race track near Weybridge, this hotel offers contemporary architecture and elegant interiors. There are a range of packages – one even includes a pair of Jimmy Choo designer shoes!

Wotton House: Set in 13 acres of Surrey countryside near Dorking, with beautiful Grade II listed Italian gardens, there’s certainly wow-factor here. There are choices of spaces from large to intimate, as well as a range of packages. Plus there are rooms for the bridal party and guests.

Hartsfield Manor: Victorian grandeur set among 16 acres of gardens, with options for small intimate weddings, or larger gatherings. Plus rooms for the bridal party and guests.
