<p>The first of many Regency romps hitting screens in 2026 and it’s a big one. Emerald Fennell has taken on Emily Brontë’s classic&nbsp;<strong><em>Wuthering Heights</em></strong>, with *screams* Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie stepping into the stormy shoes of Heathcliff and Catherine. As you’d expect from Fennell, it’s sexy, seductive, and utterly unhinged – plus it boasts a blistering original soundtrack from Charli XCX. <p><strong><em>100 Nights of Hero</em></strong>&nbsp;is a bold and wildly inventive feminist fairytale from rising talent Julia Jackman. Based on Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel, the film stars Emma Corrin as Hero, a sharp-witted maid who spins nightly tales of rebellious women to protect her mistress, Cherry (Maika Monroe), from the sinister advances of a would-be suitor. With a cast that also includes Nicholas Galitzine, Felicity Jones, Richard E. Grant and Charli XCX (hello again), this witty, visually lush satire turns classic folklore on its head. Watch for the outfits, an often shirtless Galitzine and Corrin’s relentless side eye.</p>

<p>Two brothers, one day, and a city in turmoil – BAFTA-nominated drama&nbsp;<strong><em>My Father’s Shadow</em></strong>&nbsp;takes you on a journey through Lagos like you’ve never seen it. Set against the backdrop of Nigeria’s pivotal 1993 presidential election, this moving drama follows two young brothers (Godwin Egbo and Chibuike Marvellous Egbo) navigating the bustling streets with their father (played amazingly by Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù), as political unrest threatens to derail their journey home. Inspired by the real-life experiences of director Akinola Davies Jr and co-writer Wale Davies, it’s a story of family, resilience, and connection amid chaos – and a poignant reminder of how a single day can change everything.</p>

<p>Come for the Thor-Hulk reunion, stay for the slick heists –&nbsp;<strong><em>Crime 101</em></strong>&nbsp;is a fist-tight thriller you won’t be able to switch off. Chris Hemsworth plays a charming (obv) jewel thief whose daring heists along LA’s 101 freeway have baffled the authorities. When he eyes the score of a lifetime, his path crosses with Halle Berry’s disillusioned insurance broker and Mark Ruffalo’s relentless detective. Adapted from Don Winslow’s novella and directed by Bart Layton, it’s stylish, tense, and full of twists.</p>

<p>I think it’s safe to say Joe Keery is a whole other world away from Steve Harrington, good hair and The Upside Down in sci-fi horror comedy&nbsp;<strong><em>Cold Storage</em></strong>. He plays Travis, a self-storage employee whose particularly mundane night shift takes a turn when he discovers the warehouse sits on a condemned military base — and the head-bursting, rapidly mutating fungus it once contained is now on the loose. Joined by a grizzled bioterror operative, Travis must survive the wildest shift imaginable and stop the microorganism from destroying everything in its path. Georgina Campbell, Liam Neeson and Lesley Manveille join Keery in this inventive, action-packed thrill ride.</p>

<p>Fresh from being the most awarded film at Cannes and now racking up&nbsp;four Oscar nominations – including Best Picture and Best Actor –&nbsp;<strong><em>The Secret Agent&nbsp;</em></strong>is essential viewing. Set in Brazil in 1977, amid the chaos of military dictatorship and Carnival week, the film stars Wagner Moura in a career-defining turn as Marcelo, a former professor and political dissident trying to protect his young son as the city closes in around them. What follows is a nervy, unpredictable ride – part political thriller, part fever dream – as Marcelo navigates Recife, a city alive with danger, paranoia and underground resistance. Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, it’s stylish, unsettling and fiercely alive, a film that wears its awards buzz lightly but earns every bit of it.</p>

<p>In Mary Bronstein’s darkly gripping drama&nbsp;<strong><em>If I Had Legs I’d Kick You</em></strong>, Rose Byrne delivers a powerhouse performance it’s no surprise the awards chatter is<em>&nbsp;loud</em>. She plays Linda, an overworked therapist whose life is quietly unravelling. Her daughter is ill, her husband is absent, her house is falling apart and the pressure just keeps mounting. Conan O’Brien, Danielle Macdonald, and A$AP Rocky also star in this claustrophobic, unsettling yet impossible-to-look-away-from belter of a movie.</p>

<p>From&nbsp;<em>The Brutalist</em>&nbsp;co-writer Mona Fastvold comes one of the boldest films of the year – an epic, unexpected musical about the woman who founded the Shaker movement. Amanda Seyfried stars as Ann Lee, the charismatic 18th-century leader who preached equality and devotion, reimagined through ecstatic dance and reworked spiritual hymns.&nbsp;<strong><em>The Testament of Ann Lee</em>&nbsp;</strong>charts the highs and heartbreak of building a utopia, with choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall and a score from Oscar-winner Daniel Blumberg. It’s daring, strange and beautifully committed – the kind of swing-for-the-fences cinema that’s guaranteed to divide opinion, and be talked about because of it.</p>

<p>OK, this one isn’t an easy watch, but with BAFTA nominations and David Jonsson front and centre, it’s firmly in must-see territory for those who like to stay ahead of the curve.&nbsp;<strong><em>Wasteman</em></strong>&nbsp;is a brutally intense prison drama that drops you into a claustrophobic world where survival depends on who you align yourself with. As parole finally comes into view for Taylor (Jonsson), his hopes of a fresh start are threatened by a dangerously volatile new cellmate who pulls him into violent rivalries behind bars. Featuring standout performances from Jonsson and Tom Blyth, this uncompromising feature debut from Cal McMau paints a grim, unflinching picture of prison life – bleak, gripping and impossible to ignore.</p>
