Modern Thai specialist Giggling Squid has got its tentacles into Weybridge – the former Côte Brasserie site in Church Street to be precise – with a new restaurant opening this month. The inventive tapas-style menu offers light and vibrant dishes that promise to force you out of your green curry comfort zone. Interiors are unique and stylish – no standard issue ‘greige’ here folks.
In Guildford, a brand new steak and tapas restaurant opened this week at the top of the High Street in the former CAU restaurant site. Carmona is a family-run restaurant specialising in authentic Spanish and Argentine food. It’s a sister restaurant to Carmona in Reigate.
If you loved the Bubala Middle Eastern pop-up supper clubs hosted by Fego Banstead and Fego Cobham this summer, you’ll be excited to hear that the pair behind Bubala, Marc Summers and Helen Graham, have opened their first permanent restaurant in Spitalfields.
Steve Drake has sold his Ripley pub The Anchor to focus on his Michelin-starred restaurant Sorrel in Dorking. But fans of the pub needn’t be too worried – it’ll be in the safe hands of current head chef Mike Wall-Palmer, and Dave Adams, who both worked with him at his former restaurant Drakes. The 400-old-pub has 2 AA rosettes and a Bib Gourmand awarded by Michelin.
Dorking’s new spa, the Mayflower officially opens this Friday with a party from 6-9pm – pop along for an early snoop and a glass of fizz. The luxury spa is in the centre of Dorking’s historic quarter, in building that used to be Gertie’s Tea Rooms, and specialises in VOYA products – organically certified and cruelty free. Albury Organic Vineyard in Surrey has a new product – a sweet rosso vermouth! Its been handcrafted from distilled Sauvignon blended with Pinot Noir and carefully selected botanical infusions of herbs, spices and citrus peel. All that jazz
American jazz legend George Benson is the first headliner announced for the Hampton Court Palace festival next June. He’ll take to the stage in one of the Tudor courtyards at the former home of King Henry VIII for the annual summer concert series on June 19. Tickets on sale now.
Horsley Estate, the mansion featured in Netflix’s wildly popular historic drama The Crown has had a major spruce up – and the inject of £2m means she’s looking pretty darn spiffy. The makeover involved a complete overhaul of the interiors throughout the Surrey-based mansion house and feature soft floral and geometric patters, tweeds and accents of royal blue. In the bedrooms, a muted heritage colour palette combines with vintage leather and tweed furniture, contemporary lighting and sleek bathrooms.
