NEW SPA FOR DORKING
Super exciting news for Dorking with the announcement of a new luxury spa opening in the centre of this historic market town. The Mayflower Spa – which is set to open early next month (October) in the beautiful listed building that used to be Gorgeous Gerties Tea Room and Emporium – offering a place of peace and purity. Excitingly for us, they’re also offering a welcome special of 25% off your first treatment. Details here.
DAME JUDI RE-OPENS FAIRFIELD
It’s been three years in the making and cost an eye-watering £40 million, but finally Croydon’s Fairfield Halls is to re-open. Dame Judi Dench will be on hand to cut the ribbon on Mon 16 Sep, and kick off a week-long series of events to celebrate the theatre’s spiffy new look. Fairfield Halls closed in July 2016 for a total revamp – although construction over-ran by a year and budgets were bust by a cool £11 million. But Croydon’s answer to the South Bank Centre is back in business with a 800-seat theatre, 1,800-seat concert hall, studios for resident companies, a new live music venue and a revamped foyer. The new arts programme has been announced and includes the premiere of Angela’s Ashes the Musical, which opens on Tues 24 Sept.
NEW HOTEL AT DENBIES ESTATE
The UK’s very first vineyard hotel will soon have its official opening at Denbies Wine Estate. The first phase of the boutique hotel – The Brokes Wing – opened this summer with 10 double ensuite rooms, all light, bright and contemporary with killer views out over the vineyard. There’s also a swanky bar and orangery restaurant and stunning outdoor cabanas. A spruce-up of the seven rooms in the 200-year-old farmhouse is almost complete.
FLEABAG COMES TO SURREY
See above for the look on my face when I didn’t bag West End Fleabag tickets earlier this year. No surprise there though as the tickets were hotter than Andrew Scott’s priest and sold out in minutes. So we’re thrilled to report there’s still chance to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brilliant theatre production as the show is being beamed live from Soho Theatre on 12 Sep, into our local cinemas, courtesy of National Theatre Live. Hurray! Find your local screening (there are plenty of venues) here and be quick!
