The best restaurants and cafés for healthy eating

Eating healthily doesn’t have to mean bland and boring. Here's our curated guide to the best spots in Surrey for great food with no nasties.

Chai in Banstead

Jose Pizarro at The Swan Inn, Esher
This is a modern pub with boutique rooms, but has the surprise of serving up delicious Spanish classics using Spanish ingredients and locally sourced produce. Opt for a light Mediterranean-inspired breakfast, or head down there a little later and try out the Spanish brunch (cava optional).

Chai, Banstead
Perfectly positioned in the middle of Banstead High Street, the interiors of this place will have you thinking you’re in LA! The menu is filled to the brim with healthy eats, from loaded organic porridge and homemade soup to fresh quiche and avocado toast. Yum!

Lebnani, Reigate
Have you tried Lebanese food? It’s so underrated and can be so nourishing, too. Share 3-4 mezze dishes between two of you and indulge in hummus, olives, pitta breads, grilled aubergine, falafels and so much more – sign us up!

The Juice Smith, Cobham
The Juice Smith is a vegan restaurant that does what it says on the tin – offering fresh juices galore and a whole host of healthy meals to accompany them. Think warm salads, plates filled with veggies and let’s not forget the important plant-based sweet treats.

MOMA in Haslemere

Organico, Epsom
Based in Epsom marketplace, Organico is a vegetarian and vegan coffee shop that prides itself with its healthy eats for breakfast or lunch. We have our eye on the acai bowls, chia porridge, omelettes and flatbreads. And let’s not forget the coffee!

Toriton Izakaya, Coulsdon
This Japanese sushi, robata, grill and BBQ restaurant proves that healthy food doesn’t have to be boring. Sample the sushi, tempura and grilled offerings for a taste sensation, and don’t forget to order in appetisers aplenty – they’re all so good!

Thai Pad, Oxted
Thai tapas is not only completely delicious, but it can be healthy too. Thai Pad has a lunch and main menu starring curries, noodle soups, stir fries and salads. Our order? Pla-Rad – a pan-fried whole sea bass topped with sweet chilli sauce, sweet basil, chilli and garlic.

MOMA, Haslemere
A restaurant with healthy meals galore AND has a kids menu? Sign us up. This independent Mediterranean and Japanese fusion restaurant has a simple but delicious menu, with steaks, lobster, pasta and risotto all starring. We like the sound of the slow cooked pork belly, too.

Mullans, Camberley
Located in the convenient spot of Camberley High Street, Mullans offers grub made with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast, brunch or lunch are all on the cards, with a vegan croque, nduja eggs benedict and huevos rancheros all sounding perfect to us!

Cafe Mila, Godalming
Cafe Mila oozes wellness – its mantra of ‘move, eat, restore’ is exactly what we need this January. Book yourself in for a yoga, tai chi or pilates class and follow it up with a table at the cafe, where you’ll find delicious vegetarian food and fresh smoothies on the menu.

Brasil Vegano Cafe, Guildford
Ever heard of a vegan cafe with food inspired by Brazil? Us neither, making Brasil Vegano Cafe all the more special. The vibrant decor is complemented by the extensive menu, which features salads, fresh juices and thin and crispy pizzas.
