<p>Move over, jet-setters &#8211; Surrey is officially on the luxury map. <a href="https://beaverbrook.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Beaverbrook</a>, the luxury country house hotel in Leatherhead, has landed on Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List 2025, one of only 69 exceptional hotels worldwide. With its manicured gardens, art-filled interiors and a seamless mix of country-house charm and contemporary luxury, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to sip martinis in the drawing room, stroll the rose-strewn terraces, and never leave. Cue the well-heeled applause.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-michelin-tease-tony-parkin-s-secret-restaurant">Michelin tease: Tony Parkin’s secret restaurant</h2>



<p>Surrey foodies, steady yourselves &#8211; there’s a delicious whisper doing the rounds. Could a new Michelin star be heading our way? Tony Parkin, formerly the chef behind the Michelin-starred restaurant at Great Fosters, has announced he’s opening his own place &#8211; <em>Daise by Tony Parkin</em> &#8211; and yes, he’s keeping the location firmly under wraps. Tease. All we know is that it’s coming in early 2026, it’s intimate, and it has serious culinary credentials behind it.</p>



<p>Since leaving Great Fosters, Parkin has been quietly sharpening his knives in some seriously impressive kitchens &#8211; heading up the stoves at The Brickmakers Arms in Windlesham, then clocking time at Birmingham’s two-Michelin-starred Opheem and the Michelin-starred House restaurant at Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, Ireland. The new venture promises a small, personal dining space where Tony will be firmly in the kitchen, while wife Laura handles “the more important stuff”. A mystery location, a powerhouse CV and a chef cooking front and centre? Surrey, this one feels very much worth watching.</p>

<p>Calling all wellness enthusiasts: Oxted is about to get seriously bendy. <a href="https://www.very-studios.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Very Studios</a> is opening its brand new Yoga &amp; Pilates Studio on 16 January, bringing a sleek space to the High Street and a whole host of ways to elevate your wellness game. From hot and cold yoga to reformer Pilates, mat Pilates, hot Pilates and barre, there’s something for every level &#8211; whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just fancy trying downward dog without leaving town. Having spent the last eight years perfecting the practice in Reigate (and more recently expanding to Dorking), Very Studios is ready to grow its community in Oxted in 2026. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hello-limpsfield-kitchen">Hello, Limpsfield Kitchen!</h2>



<p>Big changes are afoot in Limpsfield! The beloved <a href="https://www.thelimpsfieldcookeryschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Limpsfield Cookery School</a> has officially reinvented itself as Limpsfield Kitchen, reflecting a shift from group cookery classes to their ever-popular events and oven-ready meals. While adult classes won’t be running in 2026, children’s classes during school holidays are still very much on the menu &#8211; so little chefs can keep chopping, whisking and tasting to their heart’s content. With this evolution, the team is focusing on bringing more ready-to-go meals and foodie events to the fore, proving there’s always a new way to get stuck into cooking.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-lights-camera-leatherhead">Lights, Camera, Leatherhead!</h2>



<p>Could Leatherhead be about to get its very own cinematic glow-up? Rumour (well, new plans submitted to Mole Valley District Council) has it that a brand-new development could bring up to 480 new homes to town &#8211; <em>plus</em> a three-screen cinema that would finally give film lovers a local spot for first-run films and (let’s be honest) endless tubs of popcorn. The plans also include a new multi-storey car park, shops, and cafes and restaurants, plus offices. If approved, this town-centre refresh would be a serious win for Leatherhead&#8217;s social scene. It’s still early reels, granted, but if this goes ahead, Leatherhead could be onto a box-office hit.</p>

<p>When it comes to doing good, <a href="https://www.colombokitchen.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Colombo Kitchen</a> isn’t just talking the talk. Worcester Park’s Sri Lankan restaurant, led by chef Sylvia Perera, has raised nearly £3,000 to support families affected by Cyclone Ditwah &#8211; and that’s just the start. Funds came from a community buffet at the restaurant and a pop-up at Imperial College London Hospital, selling signature Lamprais and classic rice-and-curry boxes. The team has also packed and shipped essential parcels directly to the hardest-hit areas of Kotmale and Kandy, and in March, Sylvia and the Colombo Kitchen crew will travel to Sri Lanka to meet the families and see the impact of their efforts firsthand.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-last-loaf-for-craddocks-bakery">The last loaf for Craddocks Bakery</h2>



<p>Sad news for Ashtead foodies: <a href="https://www.craddocksbakery.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Craddocks Bakery</a> has announced it will not be reopening in 2026. The owners shared the news on social media, saying the decision came with “great sadness” and expressing heartfelt thanks to everyone who had supported the bakery over the past seven years. A beloved fixture on Craddocks Parade, the artisan bakery earned a loyal following for its freshly baked breads, pastries, and a community spirit. Its closure marks the end of an era for Ashtead &#8211; and Craddocks Parade which has been home to a bakery for the best part of 40 years. </p>
