<p>The <a href="https://www.theinnonthelake.co.uk/makeover?v_id=8eb3dbd7-a9f9-4e8c-b145-9290a14882e7&amp;consented=true#/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Inn on the Lake</a> in Godalming is getting a summer glow-up, with the popular waterside pub currently in the middle of a four-week refurbishment ahead of reopening on 3 July.</p>



<p>Guests can expect a refreshed patio area complete with new planting, decking and lighting &#8211; ideal timing for long summer lunches and sunset drinks. Inside, the function room (which seats up to 40) is also getting an update and will continue to host everything from birthdays and weddings to business events.</p>



<p>The makeover extends upstairs too, with all 20 bedrooms being refreshed as part of the new look, making it an even better spot for a countryside staycation or post-walk flop.</p>



<p>The team is promising &#8220;brand-new designs, refreshed spaces and beautiful outdoor areas&#8221; &#8211; with everything ready just in time for summer. Sounds like Godalming may have a new favourite sunny-day perch on its hands.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-windlesham-s-new-sweet-spot">Windlesham’s new sweet spot</h2>

<p>Windlesham’s just got a whole lot sweeter with the arrival of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/the_windlesham_cakery/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Windlesham Cakery</a> &#8211; a brand new village spot that opened its doors in mid-June and has already managed to get people doing that “shall we just go there again?” thing.</p>



<p>Inside, it’s all very tempting-from-the-off: cakes lined up on the counter, sourdough toasties, fresh salads for balance (if you must), and properly excellent coffee from Colco Coffee . But this isn’t just a café situation. Oh no. It’s very much a “come for a slice, stay for the social life” kind of place. Think celebration cakes made to order, space for parties and events, and a growing programme of evening gatherings and workshops. A book club is already happening, and more is planned. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-festival-of-football">Festival of Football</h2>

<p>Godstone Farm is back at it again with Surrey FA, serving up another <a href="https://www.surreyfa.com/news/2026/apr/24/godstone-farm-partner-with-surrey-fa-for-a-festival-of-football" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Festival of Football</a> this summer &#8211; perfectly timed with World Cup fever still very much in the air and every child suddenly convinced they’re the next Harry Kane.</p>



<p>Taking place on Saturday 4 July, the day brings together young players from across the county for a properly fun grassroots showdown at Meadowbank Stadium in Dorking. Expect age-appropriate formats from Under 6s right up to Under 10s, including 3v3, 5v5 and 7v7 games designed to keep things fast, fun and just the right side of chaotic.</p>



<p>There’s also a sneak peek at the new 2026-27 formats, so think of it as a very relaxed warm-up for what’s coming next season &#8211; with a bit of World Cup-inspired energy thrown in for good measure. Entry is £15 per team, with every penny going to Shooting Star Hospice &#8211; so it’s competitive on the pitch, but firmly feel-good off it. Clubs are encouraged to book early.</p>

<p>Dorking recently welcomed a rather lovely new addition with the opening of <a href="https://www.thehistoricalherbologist.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Historical Herbologist</a> in St Martin’s Walk &#8211; a unique independent business that&#8217;s part shop, part creative escape &#8230; and entirely rooted in the natural world.</p>



<p>Inside, you’ll find a thoughtfully curated mix of botanical products, herbal-inspired gifts and sustainable brands, all alongside a programme of workshops designed to encourage people to slow down and try something new.</p>



<p>Fancy learning to blend your own herbal teas? Creating natural skincare? Making herbal kokedamas or experimenting with botanical inks? That sort of thing is very much the vibe here.</p>



<p>With creativity, wellbeing and a healthy dose of nature at its heart, it feels like exactly the sort of independent opening Dorking does rather well.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dirty Bones lands at BOXPARK Croydon</strong></h3>

<p>Croydon’s BOXPARK has recently welcomed a new foodie heavyweight, as <a href="https://www.boxpark.co.uk/venues/croydon/food-and-drink/dirty-bones" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dirty Bones</a> brings its New York-inspired comfort food concept to South London.</p>



<p>Born in Kensington in 2014, the cult restaurant brand has built a loyal following for its indulgent menu of loaded fries, wings, corn ribs and NYC-inspired dishes, all served with a strong dose of hip hop and R&amp;B energy.</p>



<p>Expect the signature hits to feature &#8211; from Chicken Over Rice and Caesar plates to the Chopped Cheese Hero and rotisserie chicken &#8211; alongside the brand’s recent Bottomless Wings and Brunch success story.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-horley-s-getting-a-glow-up">Horley’s getting a glow-up</h2>



<p>Horley could be in line for a serious upgrade, with plans for a brand-new country park that looks set to offer much more than a few pathways and a token picnic bench.</p>



<p>A brand-new country park has been proposed for <a href="https://www.reigate-banstead.gov.uk/info/20326/horley/1663/tanyard_meadows_town_park" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tanyard Meadows</a> just outside Horley, near the 2,500-home Westvale development, with £3.9 million already earmarked for the project. And the wishlist? It’s looking pretty punchy.</p>



<p>Current ideas include football and cricket pitches, a skate park or parkour zone, an outdoor gym and a sports pavilion with changing facilities. The aim is to create an inclusive green space that works for everyone &#8211; from dog walkers and weekend wanderers to sporty types and energetic small humans.</p>



<p>Nothing’s set in stone just yet though &#8211; the council has launched a public consultation and wants locals to help shape the final plans. Residents have until 12 July 2026 to have their say.</p>
